Abstract: A mixed-matrix composite integrated fiber-optic (FO) sensor system was developed that reliably operates as a detector for gas-phase and dissolved CO2. A mixed-matrix composite sensor coating on the FO sensor comprising plasmonic nanocrystals and zeolite embedded in a polymer matrix. The mixed-matrix composite FO sensor showed excellent reversibility/stability in a high humidity environment and sensitivity to gas-phase CO2 over a large concentration range. The sensor exhibited the ability to sense CO2 in the presence of other geologically relevant gases. A prototype FO sensor configuration which possesses a robust sensing capability for monitoring dissolved CO2 in natural water was demonstrated. Reproducibility was confirmed over many cycles, both in a laboratory setting and in the field.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to silicone-coated mineral wool insulation materials, methods for making them using specific coating methods, and methods for using them. One aspect of the disclosure is a method for making a silicone-coated mineral wool, the method comprising: providing a mineral wool comprising a collection of mineral wool fibers; applying to the mineral wool a solvent-borne coating composition comprising a silicone, the silicone of the coating composition having a number-average molecular weight of at least 25 kDa; and allowing the solvent to evaporate to provide silicone-coated mineral wool.

Abstract: A fibre optic cable (500, 700, 1420) comprises one or more fibre units (502, 1302). Each fibre unit comprises two or more optical fibres (506, 1306) embedded in a solid resin material (520, 1320) to form a coated fibre bundle and an extruded polymer sheath (524, 1324). The sheath (524, 1324) of each fibre unit is primarily polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), with a friction reducing additive such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The additive may be polythene based and/or polyacrylate based. The fibre unit may be applied in a pullback cable (500, 800, 1100), as a cable for pulling or pushing or as a blown fibre cable (502, 1302).

A total content of the first silane coupling agent and the second silane coupling agent is 0.05 to 1.20 mass% based on the total amount of the surface-treated glass cloth, a ratio of a molar content of the first silane coupling agent to a molar content of the second silane coupling agent is 1.1 to 10.0, and a content of the organic acid is 50 to 300 ppm based on the total amount of the surface-treated glass cloth.

Abstract: An optical fiber including a glass core, and a polymer cladding formed around the glass core, the polymer cladding containing a mixture of a polymerizable composition and a silane coupling agent, and a fluorine-based ultraviolet curable resin. The mixture contains 5 to 95 parts by weight of the silane coupling agent based on 100 parts by weight of the total weight of the mixture. The fluorine-based ultraviolet curable resin alone has a refractive index in a range of 1.350 to 1.420 after ultraviolet curing. A component originated from the silane coupling agent is concentrated within a range of 20 μm or less in the polymer cladding from an interface between the glass core and the polymer cladding.

Abstract: Plastisol compositions are provided including a polymeric resin in the form of particulates dispersed within a plasticizer and one or more hydrolyzable organosilicon compounds. A suitable solvent system can be utilized in the plastisol compositions. Also provided are inorganic fibers, and particularly reinforcing scrims, that are at least partially coated with a plastisol composition including one or more hydrolyzable organosilicon compounds. Cementitious boards reinforced with plastisol coated inorganic fibers, such as mesh scrims, are also provided.
