Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for temporarily storing cotton after harvesting by forming the cotton into modules. The apparatus includes a box frame which is open at the top and bottom and has a door at one end thereof. The apparatus includes a carriage which is mounted for movement longitudinally along the top of the frame. A tramper footing is mounted for vertical movement with respect to the carriage, which tramper compresses the cotton within the frame to form the cotton module. The tramper is powered by means of a hydraulic piston and cylinder arrangement wherein the piston and cylinder arrangement can be retracted into the frame when the frame is transported from one place to another. A hydraulic system is provided for controlling both the displacement and the rate of displacement of the tramper during the cotton compacting process. After the cotton module has been formed, retractible wheels on opposite sides of the frame raise the frame to allow the frame to move longitudinally relative to the cotton module.

Abstract: A bending press with hydraulic overhead drive, provided with a vertically reciprocable upper jaw, guided in its reciprocation motion by the machine frame, and which may be inclined with respect to the lower jaw. The upper jaw is operated at least in its lowering direction by a pair of lateral hydraulic thrust cylinders. Abstract: The subject of the present invention is a power system for a double-acting hydraulic press equipped with power cylinders and plungers whose motion is coupled together, these cylinders with plungers being situated outside of both working zones of the press. Each cylinder and plunger is of a different diameter; i.e., obtained are several different working faces of plungers, and several different displacement volumes. In the effect of such a design a whole series of pressures and press operation frequencies can be obtained in a press under constant parameters of the hydraulic system, namely the pressure and the delivery of the pumped liquid, for selecting in the press the optimum pressures and operation frequencies required for a particular working process. In this way a double-acting press equipped with the invented multi-pressure systems eliiminates the whole series of conventional hydraulic presses.

Abstract: The cover of a refuse container, adapted to be sealed upon the container, is internally provided with a bellows having a pressure plate to bear against the material being compacted as the plate moves downwardly in the container in response to expansion of the bellows. The plate assembly and container define a collapsible chamber from which air is evacuated by a power means to reduce the internal pressure while air at atmospheric pressure expands the inside of the bellows. Automatic means to vent the evacuated collapsible chamber to atmosphere is provided in a control system that includes the power means to evacuate air. The container may be independent of the other elements of the invention and may be supported for translatory movement in and out of operative connection to the power means and cover whereby a plurality of containers may be employed with a single power system.

Abstract: The subject of the present invention is a double-acting hydraulic press built with a monolithic frame of a casing type. Fixed slidably within the frame are four columns on which the press platen is rigidly mounted. In this manner there are obtained two working zones of the press: a top and bottom zone, thus eliminating the idle stroke of the press. Both ends of the columns outside of the frame of a casing type are linked together with two plates which are operating jointly with power plungers. The power plungers are working inside the cylinders mounted on the bottom and the top plate of the frame. Such a design ensures a reciprocal reduction of reactions from the cylinder and from the tool, these reactions affecting the frame which in this instance does not show any practical deformation.

Abstract: The press includes a base structure carrying a lower press platen and a head carrying an upper press platen, the head being movable on guides toward and away from the base. A fluid-actuated cylinder is carried on the movable head and is adapted to rotate a centrally located torque tube. The torque tube is connected by load transfer bars to a pair of bell cranks at each of the opposite ends of the press. The bell cranks are pivotally carried by the head. Connector rods pivotally connect between the bell cranks and the base. When the cylinder is selectively extended and retracted, the transfer bars rotate the bell cranks to respectively lower and raise the upper press platen, the bell cranks providing a mechanical advantage. With the foregoing press configuration torsional deflection, elongation of the various parts and side thrust are substantially minimized.
