摘要： A metal cap for crimping on the neck of a container has one or two tear lines of reduced strength about its skirt which define a tear-off strip. A perforation for initiating tearing extends across the width of the strip and at least one smaller perforation is also provided in the strip. A tear-off tab (plastic tape) engages both sides of the strip and is joined together through the perforations. The larger perforation is either U- or L-shaped, a straight slot or variations thereof. The portion of the tear line adjacent the larger perforation may be scored to facilitate initial rupture in the desired direction. One or more circumferential reinforcing ribs may be provided in the skirt on one or both sides of the tear-off strip. In addition to the full circumferential tear line, a partial tear line may extend between the larger perforation and a slot in the edge of the cap to provide an initially narrow tear-off strip, which enlarges to include the edge of the cap.

摘要： The disclosure relates to an improvement in a convenience type (easy-open) closure for a bottle or the like. The closure includes an outer cap of severable material, such as aluminum, crimped around the rim of the bottle finish. The cap has an integral tear strip formed by score line weakening of the material. The score line has two spaced legs that join at their innermost end at the top of the cap and extend into the skirt, the one leg that extends to the free edge of the rolled or curled skirt wire is interrupted and discontinuous for a short length occurring about mid-way of the rolled section of the skirt wire. This increased the ''''hoop strength'''' of the closure. The other leg is terminated well within the skirt. Pressure retention of the closure is enhanced appreciably.

摘要： 1,049,546. Container closures. AMERICAN FLANGE & MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. April 28, 1965 [May 4, 1964], No. 17850/65. Heading B8T. A closure for a can, bottle, jar &c. consists of a resilient plastics lid 4, enveloped by a metal sealing cap 5 to which a gripping tab 25 is integrally attached. An edge 15 of the lid 4 snaps over an upwardly diverging rim 2, Fig. 4 (not shown), of the can &c. and a sealing member 30, Fig. 7 (not shown), and an anvil 31 compress the metal cap 5 about the rim 2 so that the lid 4 forms a gasket between the metal cap and the rim. A lower portion 32 of the cap skirt 23 is pressed firmly against the can wall. The metal cap 5 is removed by pulling the tab 25, whereupon the cap tears along score lines 27, Fig. 1 (not shown), extending across the top the cap. Access to the can contents is obtained by prising the edge 15 of the.lid 4 over the rim 2. In a modification. Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the metal sealing cap is in the form of a U-shaped, annulus 35 which clamps the lid 4 about the rim 2. A gripping tab 40 lies flat on the lid 4 in the centre of the annulus, score lines 42 enabling the annulus to be destructively removed. The closure may be applied to a can with an inwardly or outwardly curled-over rim. In a second modification, Fig. 13, (not shown), the closure is applied to a bottle having a beaded mouth 55. Since the bottle neck is sufficiently rigid, no back-up anvil 31 is needed with the sealing member 30 and so the centre portion of the closure is not recessed.
