    摘要: A composition and method for enhancing the thermal conductivity in heat transfer systems. The composition comprises a powder having average particle sizes in the nanometer to micron size range, a coating for imparting corrosion resistance and/or acting as a dispersant, and a heat transfer medium. The heat transfer medium is selected from the group of interpolymers, polymers, gaseous and liquid fluids, and phase change materials. Suitable powders include metals and metal oxides, alloys or blends thereof, and carbon derivatives. The surface of the powder is modified by surface complexes or physical adsorption with a coating compound. The coated powder, when mixed with a heat transfer medium, forms a colloidal dispersion which exhibits enhanced heat transfer capacity and thermal conductivity, stable chemical composition, faster heat transfer rates, and dispersion maintenance which are beneficial to most heat transfer systems.

    摘要: The present invention describes an aqueous, non-electrolytic, non-toxic, biodegradable, continuous single phase liquid anti-icing or deicing composition for use on the surfaces of, for example, aircraft, airport pavements, roadways, walkways, bridges, entrances, structures, canals, locks, components, vessels, nautical components, railroad switches, and motor vehicles. The anti-icing or deicing composition comprises: (a) water; (b) a non-toxic freezing point depressant selected from the group consisting of monohydric alcohols having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms, polyhydric alcohols having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, monomethyl or ethyl ethers of polyhydric alcohols having from 3 to 12 atoms or mixtures thereof, wherein the freezing point depressant present is between about 14 to 60 percent by weight; (c) a thickener which is present in between about 0.01 and 10 percent by weight; and (d) optionally a corrosion inhibitor which is present in between about 0.01 and 0.1 percent by weight of the total composition. In one embodiment, the deicing composition further includes (e) a monohydric primary aliphatic unbranched alcohol as a means of forming a thin layer on the surface of the composition applied to the structure to be given ice protection, and/or as means of forming a homogenized foam with xanthan thickener; which alcohol is selected from the group consisting of alcohols having between 8 to 24 carbon atoms preferably, 1-dodecanol. Compositions of water, propylene glycol, and/or propanol and xanthan are preferred. In another embodiments compositions preferably containing a polyol, such as glycerin, are used to produce a coating on an object or surface to protect it from graffiti such as paint, lacquer, ink and the like.

    摘要: An aqueous liquid aircraft runway deicer composition having minimal catalytic oxidation effect upon carbon-carbon composites which contains between about 20 and about 25 weight % of an alkaline earth metal carboxylate, between about 1 and about 15 weight % of an alkaline earth metal carboxylate, between about 1 and 35 weight % of an aliphatic alcohol, between about 0.01 and about 1 weight % of an alkali metal phosphate, between about 0.01 and about 1 weight % of an alkali metal silicate, and up to about 1% by weight of a triazole. A process for producing such a liquid aircraft runway deicer blends an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal phosphate and an alkali metal silicate in aqueous solution and reacts a carboxylic acid with the hydroxide in the solution to create an alkali metal carboxylate solution at a pH of about 14.2. A minor amount of a triazole is added when the pH is below 15. An aqueous slurry of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide is reacted with a carboxylic acid to create an aqueous solution of alkaline earth metal carboxylate. These two solutions are blended with an aliphatic alcohol to produce an effective liquid runway deicer having minimal catalytic oxidation effect upon carbon-carbon composites.

Compositions of the invention containing hygroscopic glycerin have exceptionally long duration icing protection and also anti-graffiti protection for applications on vertical surfaces where frictional loss is not critical. This invention also provides distinct functional improvements and cost advantages.
