摘要:
A method and apparatus for composing and teaching of music while learning to read music is provided that involves a user following a supported sequence of tasks that guide creativity of the user to construct a musical composition. The musical composition is constructed by assigning alphabetical characters to colors and musical notes to form a chart, forming words and phrases using the alphabetical characters, and cross-referencing the words and phrases to the chart. Various interactive components and computer software facilitate use of the method and process.

A method is provided for progressive musical instruction using a media system with processor-executable software modules storing musical performances each having a plurality of segments. A first set of audiovisual signals is generated to simulate a predetermined musical instrument from a selected performance during host segments. The audiovisual signals are adjusted to mute the predetermined instrument during user segments (non-host segments) of the performance. During the host segments a second set of audiovisual signals is generated for demonstration of a preferred user operation of the instrument. The number of user segments may be maintained or increased for successive iterations of the performance, as the user becomes more proficient. The determination to maintain or increase user segments, and which segments are added to the user segments, may be user selectable or programmable by the system based on various criteria.

Systems and methods for editing a computer-base musical score include detecting a collision between objects placed in the score and automatically moving one of the colliding objects out of the way to eliminate the collision. Selection of the object to be moved is based on a comparison of the priority levels of the colliding objects. To enhance clarity and legibility of the score, objects are organized into groups of similar type objects. Groups are treated as a single object for the purposes of avoiding collisions. Certain object types are transformed, including scaled, rotated, or sheared, to avoid collisions.

Described are methods, systems, and apparatuses, including computer program products, for scoring a musical performance after a period of ambiguity in a rhythm-action game. This is accomplished by displaying a first target music data and a second target music data where the first target music data's tolerance threshold overlaps with a second target music data's tolerance threshold. When a music performance input data is received, the game platform determines if the music performance input data is within both tolerance thresholds. Then scores are determined, based on a degree of matching between the music performance input data and the first target music data and between the music performance input data and the second target music data. The game platform then assigns the music performance input data to whichever target music data has the higher score when the difference between the first and second scores is greater than a predetermined value.

A system for teaching music with input and output devices, musical representations presented on vertically and horizontally oriented musical staffs, output responsive to selective application of input data, confirmation of propriety of input choice, and scrolling presentation of sequential musical representations constituting music. A method to develop a positive association of correct learning input to music representation presented and a negative association of improper response, to music presented in a scrolling manner along a center bar for timing visual change in musical representation upon input. Musical representations such as notes, lines and bars may be presented and the user is required to make choices through input devices to correctly identify or play the musical representation. The system and method use both visual and audio responses to input and uses color and graphical associations between the staff and notes to teach intervals and music.

A method of creating a visual representation of a musical work. Data processing apparatus analyses the work, determines attributes, including a the pitch and duration of each note, and creates a data file which is used output the work in a form readable by the human eye. Symbols representing notes are placed on a grid at vertical positions in accordance with their pitch, and horizontal positions representing time. A first basic symbol is assigned to the natural notes in an octave, a second basic symbol is assigned to sharp accidentals, and a third basic symbol is assigned to flat accidentals. The horizontal extent of the symbols represents note duration. Each of the seven natural notes in an octave is assigned a colour and a vertical position on the grid, and the sharp accidental and flat accidental notes are assigned the same colour and vertical position as the associated natural note.

A steel drum teaching tool includes a circular base divided into twelve radial sectors and three concentric rings, defining 36 note elements. An adjacent note name in a first radial direction is separated by an interval of a fifth, and an adjacent note name in a second radial direction, by a fourth. A translucent mask is rotatably affixed to the base and has a central portion divided into twelve radial sectors and three concentric rings corresponding to the base. A pair of ring sections extend about seven of the radial sectors and are divided into inner and outer sector elements corresponding to the central portion. The inner ring sector elements have indicia designating notes in a respective key to which the mask is aligned; the outer ring sector elements, indicia designating notes in a respective relative minor key. Additional aspects include an electronic tool and a method of use.

A music notation system uses a grid with vertical columns representing musical notes and horizontal rows representing time intervals. Each note of a musical piece is indicated by a selected note symbol in the appropriate column, and extending across multiple rows if intended to be sounded for more than one time interval. Different note symbol shapes are used to indicate different tone qualities or playing styles. Note symbols are colored or graphically textured to indicate different sound intensities. Suggested fingerings may be indicated by numbers marked the note symbols, or by lines connecting notes to be played with the same finger. Other graphical design elements may be used to display rhythmic or harmonic context and, in computerized applications, to show or hide selected musical information, or to activate and listen to a sound recording of a piece of music or individually selected notes.

The invention relates to a music notation system that obviates the need for one to have any knowledge of conventional music notation in order to play a keyboard, including those that are a component of a conventional musical instrument, those that are a component of an electronic musical instrument and those that are configured as a user interface with a computer system and/or video game.

The present disclosure relates to a system and method for visualization of music and other sounds. In one embodiment, the twelve notes of an octave are labeled. When notes are played, the intervals between the notes are visualized by displaying a line between the labels corresponding to the note labels. In some embodiments, the lines representing the intervals are color coded with a different color for each of the six intervals.
