摘要: The present disclosure relates to pretreating a magnetic recording head to increase the lifetime of the magnetic media drive. A transparent smear is purposefully formed on the magnetic recording head to ensure the magnetic recording head does not overheat and lead to a short drive lifetime. The transparent smear is formed from material found in the magnetic media. The transparent smear is formed by pretreating the magnetic recording head with the transparent material from the magnetic media. The pretreating occurs without writing any data to the magnetic media. Once the transparent smear is in place, writing may occur. The magnetic recording head can be retreated at a later time should the transparent smear degrade. Furthermore, if an optically absorbing smear develop, it can be removed and a new transparent smear may be formed.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a magnetic head includes a magnetic pole, first and second shield regions, and a first stacked body. A direction from the magnetic pole toward the first shield region is aligned with a first direction. A direction from the magnetic pole toward the second shield region crosses the first direction. The first stacked body is provided between the magnetic pole and the second shield region. The first stacked body includes a first magnetic layer including at least one selected from the group consisting of Fe, Co, and Ni, a first conductive layer provided between the magnetic pole and the first magnetic layer, and a second conductive layer provided between the first magnetic layer and the second shield region. The first direction is aligned with a direction of relative movement between the magnetic pole and a magnetic recording medium. The magnetic pole opposes the magnetic recording medium.

摘要: A disk drive head assembly includes a spin torque oscillator (STO) situated between a main pole and a trailing shield. A head-disk interference (HDI) sensor is placed between the main pole and a read sensor shield. A trace is connected between a preamplifier and the head assembly for providing a first biasing voltage level to the spin torque oscillator (STO) and to the head-disk interference (HDI) sensor for determining resistance changes in the head-disk interference (HDI) sensor. Further, the preamplifier is configured for determining a resistance change in the head-disk interference (HDI) sensor based on a change in current through the head-disk interference (HDI) sensor. The spin torque oscillator (STO) and the head-disk interference (HDI) sensor are connected in parallel to two connectors from the two contacting pads on the preamplifier.
