摘要:
A power converter protective apparatus for protecting an AC-DC converter against an excess fault current by preventing the fault current of a power system from flowing into the AC-DC converter. The protective apparatus comprises a series transformer, whose primary winding is connected in series with a power system and whose secondary winding is connected to a voltage-type AC-DC converter, first current bypass means of a normally open-type connected in parallel with the primary winding, a current transformer for detecting a fault current in the power system, and a control unit for outputting a bypass control signal to the first current bypass means when the current transformer detects the fault current, whereby when the fault in the power system is detected, a fault current flowing through the primary winding is bypassed by the first current bypass means.

The reliability of transformer differential relays is enhanced by providing a method and apparatus which enable improved discrimination between transformer current differentials due to transformer inrush current and current differentials due the occurrence of an internal fault. This improvement in discrimination is provided by generating a first signal representative of currents flowing in at least two windings of the transformer, a second signal representative of a positive portion of the first signal, and a third signal representative of a negative portions of the first signal. A first output signal is generated when the magnitude of the second signal exceeds a first predetermined value, and a second output signal is generated when the magnitude of the third signal exceeds a second predetermined value. A trip signal is generated upon coincidence of the first and second output signals. Additional operate energy is generated when the magnitude of the absolute value of a vector sum operate signal, representative of the vector sum of currents flowing in at least two windings of the transformer, exceeds a first predetermined magnitude. The additional operate energy is terminated and additional restraint energy is generated when the magnitude of a percentage restraint signal, representative of the absolute values of currents flowing in a least two windings of the transformer, exceeds a second predetermined magnitude for a predetermined period of time.

A stand alone protective apparatus and method is provided for electrical power devices. Power devices can be damaged due to conditions for example of over current, magnetizing in rush-current, over exitation voltage, saturation, ground fault or internal faults. To protect power devices from the noted conditions, electrical current of the power device is sensed and sampled. Digital processing is used for analyzing the digitally coded sample current and based on one of the conditions that can cause damage, a signal is provided for selectively actuating, by tripping an electric/electronic circuit breaker.

A method and system of transformer protection in which parallel admittance currents indicative of the apparent excitation state of a transformer to be protected are evaluated from the transformer terminal voltages and currents sampled at a proper interval, and discrimination between an internal defect and excitation inrush is made in response to a magnitude of the parallel admittance current, and a breaker opening command is issued in response to a judgement of internal defect. The method and system enables high-accuracy and high-sensitivity fault detection through a simple computation.

An apparatus for monitoring phased currents in a first winding and a second winding of a transformer and for disconnecting the transformer from a power source supplying the transformer when a difference between the magnitude of the current in the first winding and the magnitude of the current in the second winding exceeds a predetermined amount to indicate a fault condition is disclosed. The apparatus is used in combination with circuitry for generating first and second current signals each having a phase and magnitude which is a function of the phase and magnitude of the phased currents in the first and second windings, respectively. The apparatus includes a circuit for shifting the phase of the second current signal to match the phase of the first current signal, a circuit for detecting a difference between the magnitude of the first current signal and the magnitude of the phase shifted second current signal, and a circuit for disconnecting the transformer from the power source when the detected difference exceeds the predetermiend amount.

A transformer differential relay monitors the current flowing through the primary and secondary windings of a power transformer and disconnects the transformer from a power source feeding the transformer whenever the magnitudes of these currents indicate a fault condition in the transformer. First and second current transformer generate primary and secondary winding voltage signals representative of the magnitude of the current flowing through the power transformer primary and secondary windings, respectively. A solid state restraint signal generator is responsive to the primary and secondary winding voltage signals and generates a restraint signal representative of the magnitude of the larger of the primary and secondary winding currents, respectively, at each measurement instant. An operate signal generator is responsive to the primary and secondary winding voltage signals and generates an operate signal representative of the magnitude of the vector sum of the currents flowing through the power transformer primary and secondary windings. Finally, means are provided for disconnecting the power transformer from the power source when the magnitude of the operate signal operates above a predetermined percentage of the restraint signal.
