    摘要: A laser guidance beam (30) for beam-riding aerial missiles is reflected at a stabilized mirror (M) to stabilize its position in space. A target (T) is viewed by an operator in a field of view (22) which also contains an aiming mark (A) stabilized by the mirror (M). A joystick (27) is used to generate signals for rotating the mirror (M) to bring the stabilized aiming mark (A) into superposition with the target, whereby the guidance beam (30) is also superposed on the target. Separate mirrors can be used for stabilization in pitch and yaw (FIG. 8). Different mirror elements on a single mirror unit, with the elements separated by a baffle, can be used to eliminate the risk of laser radiation of the guidance beam from entering the eye of the operator.

    摘要: In accordance with this invention, a missile referenced beamrider guidanceink is provided in which a continuous wave or pulsed laser output is formed into a gaussian cross section or similarly shaped beam and projected to one offset sensor, or to two sensors located on opposite sides and as far from the missile's roll axis as possible. The rolling missile motion amplitude modulates the received signal and the amplitude of the modulation is a measure of the missile's distance from beam axis. The phase of the modulation provides the direction to beam center.

    摘要: A beam of electromagnetic radiation is spatially encoded using a digital frequency diversity technique. The spatial encoding defines the beam cross-section into a series of resolution elements each identified by a different digital code. The codes defining resolution elements are detectable by an object, such as a missile, located in the radiation beam and can be used to locate the object in this beam. In the preferred embodiment, an encoding mask, moved through the beam, provides the digital frequency modulation. The mask is provided with a series of bit areas, each of which bears at least two sets of cyclically recurring bands effective to modulate a detectable parameter of the radiation, such as intensity. The spacing between adjacent bands of a set, termed a bit cycle, is proportional to a predetermined frequency of beam parameter modulation. The novel arrangement enables the object to identify its position within the beam under conditions of severe atmospheric turbulence and object induced perturbations.

    摘要: A line of sight guidance system in which the radiated output of a pulsed laser is spatially modulated to produce a beam radiated from an optical projector along a first axis, including a missile or projectile carrying a beam receiver and signal decoder which receives and decodes information in the beam to enable the missile to seek beam center, is provided with apparatus for generating a lead angle axis reference for the missile. The basic technique comprises FM modulating the rotational rate of an orbitally driven projected beam chopping spoked reticle. The FM modulation amplitude is chosen to equal the magnitude of the desired angular change of the projected spatially coded axis, while the FM modulation phase is made to equal the direction in which the projected spatially coded axis is shifted. The receiver at the missile interprets the image of the recticle pattern as if the receiver where displaced from the unmodualted first axis position in a direction from beam center as indicated by the modulation phase. Since the missile is controlled to the beam axis center, it follows the coded axis shift.

    摘要: A beam projector which is controlled to alternately transmit rectangular cross-sectional beams substantially parallel to a projection axis, wherein the beams are respectively pulse modulated over a correspondingly distinct pulse rate frequency range to supply yaw and pitch information and are respectively scanned in a direction correspondingly orthogonal to its cross-sectional length. The size format of the beam cross-sections and the angle of the scan are controlled according to a predetermined time variable function. In a first time period, the largest cross-sectional beams are alternately transmitted and the scan angle is decreased as a function of time, so that a fixed area of detectable information is available for detection with respect to an imaginary orthogonal reference plane moving along the projection axis at a rate corresponding to the predetermined time variable function. In subsequent time periods proportionately smaller cross-sectional beams are transmitted and the scan angle is continually controlled.A first embodiment employs the use of a single set of proportionately different size formattec cross-sectional laser sources as a radiation generator, a scanning mechanism and a beam chopper fixed focus optical system to effect alternately transmitted beams, of selectable cross-section, orthogonally oriented and scanned with respect to each other.A second embodiment employs two corresponding sets of proportionately different size formatted cross-sectional laser sources, a scanning mechanism and a non-chopping fixed focus optical system to effect alternately transmitted beams of selectable cross-section, orthogonally oriented and scanned with respect to each other.
