Three independent displacement indicating transducers associated with the probe provide signals which are indicative of its position relative to the body. 摘要： When fan-blade tips in a turbofan aero engine reach a velocity of greater than about mach 1.1, the regular shock-wave pattern near the blade tips degenerates into an irregular pattern as it moves upstream, thus causing "buzz-saw" noise. An anit-buzz acoustic liner of the spaced-cell type forms part of the fan duct wall near the blade tips and combats the degeneration by reinforcing the regular shock-wave pattern at the expense of the irregular one. This is achieved by making the depth of the cells equal to half the wavelength of the blade passing frequency at the supersonic condition of interest.

摘要： A bladed rotor assembly for a gas turbine comprises blades whose roots are held in slots in a blade carrying member. In order to retain the blades against movement in the slots locking members engage with the blades and the member. At least one of the engagements comprises a projection defining an undercut into which an edge of the locking member engages. In order to reduce frettage, the edge and the undercut are shaped to form a groove which tapers so that its section reduces in the radially outward direction, and a wedging member is mounted in the groove so that it tends to centrifuge outward in the groove and wedge the edge in the undercut against a wall of the undercut.

摘要： A pair of complementary rod electrodes, one of which machines the other, is added to the circuitry of an electro-discharge machining system in which holes are drilled into existing passages in a workpiece, by other machining electrodes. When a machining electrode breaks into the passage, the resulting sharp increase in electrical potential thereacross is prevented from affecting the electrode advance control mechanism because the mechanism only senses the low potential across the continuously machining rod electrodes. Thus the electrode which machines the workpiece is prevented from rapidly traversing the passage and machining the opposite wall.

摘要： A gas turbine engine power plant having a coal burning fluidized bed utilized as the heating source for the power plant. The fluidized bed comprises inerts and coal in which is immersed a temperature sensitive device, the signal from which is used to control the supply of coal to the bed to thereby maintain the bed at a predetermined temperature and to limit the bed temperature to a predetermined maximum value. The bed can be fluidized by the flow of compressed air from the compressor of the gas turbine engine power plant and the whole of the compressor delivery air flows through the bed in direct chemical contact with the bed materials and is then cleaned prior to delivery to the turbines of the power plant from which it is discharged to atmosphere.

摘要： An aircraft jet propulsion power plant is fitted with a sliding ejector sleeve for the provision by selection, of an auxiliary flow of ambient air within the sleeve so as to quieten the noise of the gas efflux. The sleeve is mounted independently of the power plant and is supported from a side of the aircraft fuselage. The sleeve mounting structure has an arm which projects into the fuselage to provide a further mounting point, the reaction loads of which act downwardly so as to counteract the downwardly acting weight of the cowl on the side mounting.
