    Abstract: An inductive position detection configuration for stylus position measurement in a scanning probe comprises a stylus position detection portion arranged along a central axis in the probe. The stylus position detection portion includes a field generating coil configuration and top and bottom axial and rotary sensing coil configurations. The field generating coil configuration generates a changing magnetic flux, and coil signals indicate conductive disruptor element and/or stylus positions. A field generating coil coupling and crosstalk reducing configuration couples signal processing and control circuitry to the field generating coil configuration to provide a coil drive signal, and is configured to reduce crosstalk that would otherwise occur if the field generating coil configuration were directly connected to the signal processing and control circuitry without the field generating coil coupling and crosstalk reducing configuration.

    Abstract: A calibration configuration for a chromatic range sensor (CRS) optical probe of a coordinate measurement machine (CMM) includes a cylindrical calibration object and a spherical calibration object. The cylindrical calibration object includes at least a first nominally cylindrical calibration surface having a central axis that extends along a Z direction that is intended to be aligned approximately parallel to a rotation axis of the CRS optical probe. The spherical calibration object includes a nominally spherical calibration surface having a first plurality of surface portions. The CMM is operated to obtain radial distance measurements and determine cylindrical calibration data using radial distance measurements of the cylindrical calibration object and to determine spherical calibration data using radial distance measurements of the spherical calibration object.

    Abstract: An inductive position detector (IPD) for stylus position measurement in a scanning probe comprises a coil board configuration located along a central axis in the probe with a motion volume extending on opposite sides of the coil board configuration. The coil board configuration includes N top rotary sensing coils (RSCs) and a top axial sensing coil configuration (ASCC), and N bottom RSCs and a bottom ASCC. A pair of stylus-coupled conductive disruptors move along Z (axial) and X-Y (rotary) directions in the motion volume. A generating coil (GC) of the coil board configuration generates a changing magnetic flux (e.g., encompassing all or at least part of the disruptors), and coil signals indicate the disruptors and/or stylus positions. Areas of the conductive disruptors may be larger than an area of the generating coil in some implementations, and the conductive disruptors may each comprise a plurality of concentric conductive loops, spirals, etc.

    Abstract: A touch probe for sensing the position of a surface, having a housing and a moving assembly supported within the housing and including a flexible reflective element, a spacer element, and a semitransparent element, wherein a reflective surface of the flexible reflective element and a surface of the semitransparent element opposing the reflective surface are separated by the spacer element, and a stylus connected to the flexible reflective element. The moving assembly and stylus are configured such that movement of the stylus responsive to a force on the stylus causes the flexible reflective element to flex and change distances between points on the reflective surface of the flexible reflective element and on the opposing surface of the semitransparent element. A coherent light source provides coherent light incident upon the semitransparent element and directed through the semitransparent element towards the reflective surface of the flexible reflective element, such that interference fringes are created dependent upon separation distances between the reflective surface of the reflective element and the opposing surface of the semitransparent element. A detector senses changes in the interference fringes patterns in response to flexing of the flexible element.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method to control a drive mechanism of an automated machine for approaching a point of interest on an object, the object having a surface on which a reference information of the object is provided as a one- or two-dimensional pattern, the method comprising capturing at least one image of the object by means of at least one camera of the automated machine, identifying the reference information in the at least one image, determining a position and orientation of the reference information relative to the at least one camera, determining a position and orientation of the object based on the determined position and orientation of the reference information, and controlling the drive mechanism based on the determined position and orientation of the object.
