摘要： The planar antenna apparatus may include a planar, electrically conductive, patch antenna element having a geometric shape defining an outer perimeter, and a pair of spaced apart signal feedpoints along the outer perimeter of the planar, electrically conductive, patch antenna element and separated by a distance of one quarter of the outer perimeter to impart a traveling wave current distribution. The outer perimeter of the planar, electrically conductive, patch antenna element may be equal to about one operating wavelength thereof. The apparatus may provide dual circular or dual linear polarization. The planar patch element may relate to a full wave loop antenna as a compliment.

摘要： The electrically tunable inductive device includes an electromagnet including an electromagnet core and a bias or tuning coil cooperating therewith to define opposing magnetic poles for generating a quiescent magnetic field that may be varied. An inductor is tunable based upon the variable magnetic field and includes an inductor core having a toroidal shape and fixed at a position adjacent the opposing magnetic poles of the electromagnet, and an inductor or signal coil is around at least a portion of the inductor core. The electromagnet core may include a pair of opposing legs and a bight portion therebetween defining a horseshoe shape. The inductor core may be positioned between ends of the opposing legs of the electromagnet core, and the tuning coil may surround the bight portion of the electromagnet core. The electrically tunable inductive device may have the combination of fine precision, high speed and high power handling, useful for tunable RF filters.

摘要： The polarization-diverse antenna array includes three orthogonal loop antennas having a common center, e.g. together defining a sphere. Each loop antenna includes a loop electrical conductor. Two signal feedpoints are along the loop electrical conductor and separated by a fraction of a length of the loop electrical conductor. Each of the signal feedpoints includes a series signal feedpoint so that a polarization diversity controller coupled thereto may selectively provide vertical, horizontal, lefthand circular and righthand circular polarization for a single loop electrical conductor, including simultaneous (dual) polarizations. These signal feedpoints may supply signals with vertical, horizontal, lefthand circular and righthand circular polarization from each of the three orthogonal look-angles provided by the three loop electrical conductors. Thus the antenna array may provide a compact facility for using Diversity Combining to improve communications performance and/or Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO) schemes that furthermore also increase capacity. The polarization-diverse antenna array provides a rigorous polarization and look angle approach for communications diversity.

摘要： The hybrid junction includes four electrically conductive planar windings, circular or rectangular, arranged so as to lie along an imaginary spherical or cylindrical surface. Each of the four electrically conductive windings is rotated from adjacent windings by about forty-five degrees. The four electrically conductive windings are electrically insulated from each other and each include a respective signal port. The hybrid junction automatically splits and/or sorts signals. Signals applied to any port will split equally between the opposite port pairs. One output signal will be in-phase with the input signal, and the other output signal will be shifted by 0 or 180 degrees from the input signal. The input signal is split equally, output coupling may be half power or loose, and there is isolation between the output ports. The hybrid junction operates over a broad bandwidth.

摘要： The inductor, preferably a microwave tunable inductor, includes first and second wires twisted together to define a double helix having a first end and second end with a plurality of twists therebetween. First and second terminals are at the first end of the double helix, and a connection at the second end of the double helix electrically connects the first and second wires in series. The inductance is tuned by adjusting a number of twists in the double helix, and the inductance includes a linear tuning range based upon between about 3 to 10 twist for a tuning range of about 7–12 Nanohenries. The inductor can also resonate and filter, and the double helix affords numerous advantages over conventional single helix inductors.
