    Abstract: A water heater can include a housing and a heating system disposed within the housing, where the heating system is configured to heat a fluid. The water heater can also include a switch coupled to the heating system, where the switch operates between a first position during normal operations and a second position during an outage. The water heater can further include a primary power source coupled to the switch, where the primary power source is configured to provide primary power to the heating system through the switch during the normal operations. The water heater can also include an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) coupled to the switch, where the UPS is configured to provide reserve power to the heating system through the switch during the outage, and where the UPS is integrated with the housing.

    Abstract: A heated water device is disclosed. The heated water device includes a cold water tank configured to receive cold water from a cold water source and a hot water tank configured to receive water from a hot water source and discharge water to the cold water source. The heated water device includes a pump configured to selectively pump water from the hot water source and to the hot water tank and a valve configured to selectively permit water to flow from the hot water tank to the cold water source. The heated water device includes a thermoelectric generator configured to generate electrical energy from a water temperature differential between cold water in the cold water tank and heated water in the hot water tank.

    Abstract: An evaporator includes an integral liquid suction heat exchanger that is disposed in a housing of the evaporator. The integral liquid suction heat exchanger is defined by an evaporator header of the evaporator and a portion of a liquid line that extends through an inner cavity defined by the evaporator header such that: (a) the evaporator header and the portion of the liquid line form a tube-in-tube structure, and (b) refrigerant from the evaporator coils that is channeled into the inner cavity of the evaporator header is superheated and converted to a vapor state in the evaporator header by heat from the refrigerant flowing through the liquid line. The refrigerant flowing through the liquid line is in a liquid state and has a higher temperature than the refrigerant from the evaporator coils that is in a two-phase state.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for improved heat exchange performance are disclosed. The system can include a first slab of refrigerant tubes having an upstream side and a downstream side. The system can further include a second slab of refrigerant tubes having an upstream side and a downstream side. The system can additionally include an airflow distribution device configured to distribute air along the first and second slabs. Further, the downstream side of first slab can be set apart a first distance from the downstream side of the second slab and the upstream side of the first slab can be attached to the upstream side of the second slab. The airflow distribution device can include a perforated plate having perforations of various dimensions or various sized vanes positioned in the path of airflow.

    Abstract: An electric water heater has upper and lower electric resistance type heating elements respectively controlled by a single pole, double throw upper thermostat and a single pole, single throw lower thermostat. The upper and lower thermostats are operatively interconnected by a wiring harness having outer conductor end portions that are connected to a terminal block portion of an external junction box to provide the water heater with a variety of heating element operating modes without having to replace either of the thermostats, vary the wiring harness interconnections therebetween, or vary the connection between the outer conductor end portions and the terminal block. The water heater may thus be advantageously manufactured in a single variant that may be easily and quickly modified in the field to selectively alter the heating element control mode of the water heater.

    Abstract: A liquid slug reduction and charge compensator device for use in air conditioning and heat pump systems includes a housing having a cavity. The housing includes an inlet port providing an entry path into the cavity and an outlet port providing an exit path from the cavity. The housing further includes a liquid line port providing a refrigerant pathway into and out of the cavity. The liquid slug reduction and charge compensator device further comprises a flash tube extending through the cavity and providing a passageway through the cavity such that a hot gas refrigerant that enters the cavity through the inlet port causes a liquid refrigerant that enters the flash tube to evaporate.
