Abstract:
The invention describes an image reading device having a housing, a transparent panel, an image sensor, a carriage, and an electric cable. The housing has a first, second, and third surface. The transparent panel defines a portion of the first surface. The image sensor extends in a first direction, and is mounted to the carriage and optically reads a document through the transparent panel while the carriage reciprocates in a second direction. The electric cable is electrically connected to the image sensor, and includes a band surface portion having a band surface and extending in a third direction intersecting the first and second direction. The electric cable also has a first end portion attached to the carriage; and a second end portion attached to the second surface. At least a portion of the electric cable is twisted such that the band surface and the third surface are not parallel.

An image reading device includes: an original table having a stationary original reading area and a moving original reading area on its top surface; an image reading unit provided inside the original table and moving the reading line in the direction of the width of the stationary original reading area and to the moving original reading area with the direction of the length of the stationary original reading area as the reading line; an original cover openably and closably provided on the original table so as to cover at least the stationary original reading area; and an ADF having an original conveyance path leading from an original tray by way of the moving original reading area to an original output tray. The image reading device reads originals of sizes larger than the readable stationary original size without any size increase of the device.
Abstract:
A display support includes a display cover including a display cover surface and a guide groove; a display pivotally mounted by at least one support portion on the display cover, to pivot between a first position and a second position, at which second position the display forms an acute angle with the display cover surface; an input portion covered by the support portion, when the display is in the first position; and the guide groove configured to convey the at least one support portion from a first location to a second location as the display pivots on to the second position, such that at least one support portion uncovers the input portion when the at least one support portion is at the second location. An electronic device, such as a multifunction device includes a housing and a display support.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes: a reading table having a transparent plate having an exposed area which constitutes a part of an outer surface of the table exposed to the exterior, and on which a document with an image thereon is placed; a document holding member movable relative to the table and between a closed and an open position, and thus holding the document and covering the plate; a scanning device disposed on a side of the plate opposite to the side on which the document is placed on the plate, the scanning device being reciprocated in a direction along the plate; an image reading device mounted in the scanning device and including a light source, the reading device emitting light from the light source toward the document on the plate, and receiving the reflected light from the document, to read the image thereby; a control unit controlling reading by the reading device, and a reciprocating movement of the scanning device; a reference member disposed within the exposed area, and used as a reference when an amount of the light emitted from the light source is adjusted; and an external-light detector determining whether external light is entering the table, based on at least one value obtained as a result of reading the reference member.
Abstract:
An image reading device has a CIS unit. The CIS unit is held by a carriage. A compression coil spring that presses the CIS unit toward a contact glass plate is disposed between the bottom surface of the carriage and the bottom surface of the CIS unit. An extension coil spring that pulls the CIS unit toward the carriage is attached between the bottom surface of the carriage and the center portion of the CIS unit.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes an original-sheet support table and reading an image on an original sheet supported by the original-sheet support table. The original-sheet support table includes: (a) an original-sheet support surface on which the original sheet is supported; (b) a contact surface which stands up from the original-sheet support surface and is contactable with one side of the original sheet supported by the original-sheet support surface; and (c) at least one guide mark which is provided in the contact surface. The original sheet is positioned on the original-sheet support surface in a state in which the one side of the original sheet is held in contact with the contact surface of the original-sheet support table and one end of the one side of the original sheet is aligned with the at least one guide mark.
Abstract:
An image scanning device includes: a main body that has a box-shaped appearance having a front face and a back face; a flat bed scanner unit that is mounted on the main body to be rotatable around an axis provided near the back face along a width direction of the main body; and a stopper that supports the flat bed scanner unit in an opened state. The stopper includes: a base end that is rotatably attached to an upper portion of the main body; and a leading end that is slidably attached to the flat bed scanner unit. A casing of the flat bed scanner is provided with a stopper accommodating portion that is recessed from a bottom surface of the casing. The stopper accommodating portion accommodates the stopper above the bottom surface in a closed state where the flat bed scanner unit is closed.
Abstract:
A scanning unit is configured to slide along a guide shaft that extends in a predetermined direction. The scanning unit includes a carriage configured to slide along the guide shaft, a bearing which is disposed on a carriage and through which the guide shaft passes, and an elastic deformation allowance mechanism which permits elastic deformation of the external shape of the bearing in the predetermined direction at a predetermined time. For example, a contact image sensor unit includes a box equipped with a contact image sensor. The box has a bearing through which a guide shaft is inserted. The bearing has a pair of bosses, bushings that fit therein, and a coil spring that is disposed between the bushings. The bushings are urged by the coil spring, so that the bushings continually protrude outwards. As the contact image sensor unit slides along the guide shaft, the bushings insert in between the bosses when the bushings abut the wall surface of the frame, so that the bearing is deformed elastically. An image reading device may include a scanning unit.
Abstract:
An image reader has an image sensor; a carriage; a positioning portion formed at a predetermined position in a longitudinal direction of the image sensor with respect to a reference position of the image sensor; a connector portion to which an electric cable is connected and which is provided between an end of the carriage and one end in the longitudinal direction of a case of the image sensor; and an engaging portion formed in the carriage. In the image recording apparatus, since the positioning portion is engaged with the engaging portion, it is possible to use a common carriage for a plurality of types of image sensors, and an operation of connecting the electric cable becomes simple.
Abstract:
A sheet feeder includes a separation roller having a circumferential surface that contacts a first sheet to be fed first among stacked sheets and picks up the first sheet and one or more second sheets adjacent to the first sheet, a separation arm that is closer to the circumferential surface of the separation roller downstream in a feeding direction and configured to apply higher frictional resistance to the second sheets than the first sheet to feed the first sheet ahead of the second sheets, and a guide member including a guide portion that has a lower-friction surface than the separation arm and extends from the separation arm with a distal end thereof in contact with or close to the circumferential surface of the separation roller. The guide portion guides the first and second sheets along the circumferential surface of the separation roller.
