摘要: A telemetry receiver for an implantable medical device (IMD) such as a cardiac pacemaker has an RF antenna coupled to a telemetry circuit that includes an out-of-band rejection filter comprising a thin film bulk acoustic resonator filter. The telemetry circuit includes an amplifier coupled to the thin film bulk acoustic resonator filter and a demodulator coupled to the amplifier. The filter, amplifier and demodulator are all fabricated on a common integrated circuit die. A multichannel telemetry receiver for an IMD has a plurality of thin film bulk acoustic resonator bandpass filters defining individual channels. Identification of a preferred data transmission channel for communication of programming data to the IMD is determined by obtaining samples of the signals being passed by each of a plurality of thin film bulk acoustic resonator bandpass filters that define individual channels and evaluating the samples to determine the noise level for each channel.

摘要: An improved switching system for use with an implantable medical device (IMD) is described. The system utilizes Micro-Electrical-Mechanical system (MEMs) switches in place of one or more switches formerly implemented using transistor networks. Any type of switching circuit used within an IMD may be implemented using this technology. For example, MEMs switches may be utilized in a circuit for selectably delivering electrical stimulation to a patient, and/or in a circuit for providing surge protection. The fabrication of the MEMs switches may be performed using one or more separate tubs or wells on a silicon substrate to isolate switching circuitry from other IMD circuitry.

摘要: The present invention provides for an encryption apparatus, system, and method in which data from an Implantable Medical Device (IMD) and a data center could be transferred based on a differentiated encryption system. The encryption scheme allows for the differentiation, segregation, and classification of data at required or needed levels of security. Before transfer of the data, either from an IMD or any other part of a support network for the IMDs, the encryption device begins to distinguish the data. The variable data is then classified based on various levels of security having distinct encryption protocols. After classification the data is encrypted based on the data's level of security. The data is then transmitted. Upon being received the data is then segregated based on whether the data is encrypted. The encrypted data is then de-encrypted and interpreted.

摘要: A network compatible RF Wireless Link for Medical Device Data Management includes apparatus for establishing a communication link between an IMD, a patient-worn device, and a remote monitoring station while at the same time minimizing device current drain. The minimal current drain is achieved by scheduling periodic interrogation of the data collected by the IMDs for subsequent transmission to a remote location. Generally, the communication system is implemented to transmit data preferably telemetered from the IMD to a patient-worn device. The data from the patient-worn device is transmitted to a transceiver that sends the data to a remote information network. The patient-worn device may be equipped with a Bluetooth (BT) or Home RF communication system. The transceiver is preferably similarly equipped with BT or Home RF technology having a plurality of nodes. In one aspect of the invention, the patient-worn device would transmit data to the transceiver, which may be connected to a phone line, cellular phone, satellite communication systems, telemetry or equivalent wireless data transmission system. The system provides patient mobility while enabling data transmission and interrogation of one or more implanted medical devices in the patient.

摘要: Implantable medical devices (IMDS) having RF telemetry capabilities for uplink transmitting patient data and downlink receiving programming commands to and from an external programmer having an improved RF module configured to occupy small spaces within the IMD housing to further effect the miniaturization thereof. An RF module formed of an RF module substrate and at least one IC chip and discrete components has a volume and dimensions that are optimally minimized to reduce its volumetric form factor. Miniaturization techniques include: (1) integrating inductors into one or more IC chips mounted to the RF module substrate; (2) mounting each IC chip into a well of the RF module substrate and using short bonding wires to electrically connect bond pads of the RF module substrate and the IC chip; and (3) surface mounting discrete capacitors over IC chips to reduce space taken up on the RF module substrate. The integrated inductors are preferably fabricated as planar spiral wound conductive traces formed of high conductive metals to reduce trace height and width while maintaining low resistance, thereby reducing parasitic capacitances between adjacent trace side walls and with a ground plane of the IC chip. The spiral winding preferably is square or rectangular, but having truncated turns to eliminate 90° angles that cause point-to-point parasitic capacitances. The planar spiral wound conductive traces are further preferably suspended over the ground plane of the RF module substrate by micromachining underlying substrate material away to thereby reduce parasitic capacitances.

摘要: A transdermal drug delivery device in communication with at least one IMD is externally mounted to deliver pain analgesics and/or threshold reduction medications prior to or contemporaneous with a shock associated with a pacer, a defibrillator and similar therapy device. The drug delivery device includes an attachable strip with a storage for medications and is epidermally mounted. The medications are released into the bloodstream in response to an indication that the IMD is about to deliver a shock. The drug delivery device is adapted for use with various drugs. Further, the delivery of drugs could be controlled by the patient to provide a semi-automatic use and/or to terminate delay shock. The transdermal drug delivery device and the IMD include system status indicators to provide real-time operational data of the drug delivery device and the IMD individually and in combination. The drug delivery device is also implemented with a CHF monitor to treat CHF patients.

摘要: A system for minimizing power dissipation within an implantable medical device through use of adiabatic logic is disclosed. The system includes a first and a second sub-circuit of the implantable medical device. An electrical connection interconnects the first and the second sub-circuits, the electrical connection including a capacitive element. Circuitry, which charges the capacitive element of the electrical connection to generate a ramp logic signal, is connected to the capacitive element. The ramp logic signal includes a frequency of less than 500 kilohertz, thereby creating a low frequency, low power system which reduces energy dissipation to the surrounding environment.

摘要: A battery powered cardioverter or defibrillator employing a DC-DC converter for charging high voltage output capacitors and for delivering biphasic cardioversion or defibrillation pulses through a bridge circuit including high and low side drive circuits under the control of a microprocessor controlled arrhythmia detection system. Upon the detection of an arrhythmia and the selection of cardioversion/defibrillation therapy, the charging of the high voltage output capacitors is commenced and the capacitor voltage enables a regulated voltage source for the high and low side drive circuits for the high power IGTs of each branch of the bridge circuit. High voltage switching transients are suppressed from re-triggering or otherwise affecting operation of the drive circuits. Fail-safe circuitry disables operation of the drive circuits in the event that the first and second control signals are inadvertently provided simultaneously or overlap.
