    摘要: Apparatuses useful for printing and methods for controlling the temperature of media in apparatuses useful for printing are disclosed. An embodiment of the apparatuses includes a heated first roll including a first outer surface; a heated second roll including a second outer surface; a third roll including a third outer surface; a temperature sensor for sensing the temperature of the third outer surface; a belt supported on the first roll and the second roll and disposed between the first outer surface and the third outer surface, the belt including an inner surface and an outer surface; a nip between the third outer surface and the outer surface of the belt at which the belt heats media which include a surface, marking material on the surface and an interface between the surface and marking material; and a positioning device coupled to the second roll. The positioning device is operable to move the second roll relative to the outer surface of the belt to change a wrap length of the belt on the second outer surface, based on the temperature of the third outer surface, to maintain a substantially constant temperature at the interface between the surface and marking material.

    摘要: Fuser assemblies for fusing toner on copy sheets, xerographic apparatuses, and methods of fusing toner on copy sheets in xerographic apparatuses are disclosed. An embodiment of the fuser assemblies includes a continuous fuser belt including an inner surface and an outer surface opposite the inner surface; at least a first roll and a second roll which support the fuser belt, at least one of the first roll and second roll being adapted to heat the fuser belt; a heater including an outer heating surface facing the inner surface of the fuser belt; and a mechanism operatively connected to the heater for moving the heater to bring the heating surface into contact with the inner surface of the fuser belt. The heater is operable to supply heat from the heating surface to the inner surface to increase the temperature of the outer surface of the fuser belt adjacent the inner surface heated by the heating surface.

    摘要: This is a pre-heater system especially useful in an electrostatic marking apparatus. It is used to heat the toner and paper (media) prior to the paper entering the conventional fuser station. Using this pre-heater increases fusing productivity (ppm), widens media latitude and/or extends fuser member life for a given fuser system. It also dramatically improves uniform heat transfer and paper handling problems encountered in prior art preheat fusing assemblies. The preheater is used together with the conventional fuser stations used today in electrostatic marking systems.

The printing system has a first mode of operation in which print media is fused by both fusers and a second mode of operation in which at least a portion of the print media is fused by the second fuser, which portion has not been previously fused by the first fuser. The second fuser has first and second fuser operating modes when the printing system is in the first and second modes of operation, respectively. The second fuser applies a first energy input to the print media in the first fuser operating mode and a second energy input, different from the first energy input, to the print media in the second fuser operating mode.

    摘要: A contact belt fusing apparatus is provided for reducing sheet edge wear defects in fused copies. The fusing apparatus includes an endless fusing belt having an external fusing surface defining a path of movement and a plurality of support rollers for supporting and moving the endless fusing belt along the path of movement. The endless fusing belt as supported has a first fusing position aligned on the plurality of support rollers at a first location, and at least a second fusing position aligned on the plurality of support rollers at a second location that is spaced axially from the first location thereon. The fusing apparatus also includes heating member for heating the external fusing surface of the endless fusing belt, and a pressure roller forming a fusing nip with the external fusing surface of the endless fusing belt for contacting and moving toner image carrying sheets therethrough, the toner image carrying sheets having edges that induce wear on the external fusing surface of the endless fusing belt. Importantly, the fusing apparatus includes a belt moving mechanism for controllably moving the endless fusing belt axially, relative to the plurality of rollers, from the first fusing position to the at least second fusing position, so as to reduce sheet edge wear on the external fusing surface of the endless fusing belt.

    摘要: A radiation curable gel ink printing system is provided that includes a radiation source configured to emit UV light having short wavelength components. The disclosed systems and methods transport a substrate having radiation curable gel ink deposited thereon to the radiation source to expose the ink to the radiation source. The exposure at the radiation source may be continuous or pulsed. The radiation source may be configured a distance away from the radiation curable gel ink deposited on the substrate. The radiation source pre-treats the radiation curable gel ink before spreading the radiation curable gel ink at a contact-leveling nip at which a contact member applies pressure to the partially cured radiation curable gel ink against the substrate. The radiation curable gel ink is preferentially cured to allow spreading of the radiation curable ink by the contact member while limiting offset of the ink onto the contact member.
