A system, method and computer program product for calibrating a Time Of Day (TOD)-clock in a computing system node provided in a multi-node network. The network comprises an infrastructure of computing devices each having a physical clock providing a time base for executing operations that is stepped to a common oscillator. The system implements steps for obtaining samples of timing values of a computing device in the network, the values including a physical clock value maintained at that device and a TOD-offset value; computing an oscillator skew value from the samples; setting a fine steering rate value as equal to the opposite of the computed oscillator skew value; and, utilizing the fine steering rate value to adjust the physical clock value and correct for potential oscillator skew errors occurring in the oscillator crystal at the computing device.

A method and an apparatus for liquid safety-detection by backscattering with a radiation source are provided that relate to a radiation detecting technology field. The invention comprises using a radiation source, a collimator, a detector, a data collector and a computer data processor, and has the main steps of: 1) placing a liquid article to be detected onto a rotatable platform; 2) emitting a ray from the radiation source, said ray causing Compton scattering at the surface of the liquid after passing through the package layer of the liquid article; 3) the scattering photons being received by the detector after passing the collimator; 4) the detector transmitting the received data to the data collector; and 5) the data collector transmitting the amplified and shaped data to the computer data processor, which processes the data to obtain the liquid density of the detected article, then compares the result with the densities of dangerous articles in a current database, and gives a warning if the density of the detected article is consistent with that of a dangerous article. Compared to the prior art, the invention is convenient to use, detects rapidly and accurately, has a strong anti-interference, is very safe and reliable to use, and protection is easy.

A method for synthesizing high-content NaY molecular sieves with kaolin sprayed microspheres includes adding functional components and deionized water into kaolin so as to be pulped into a mixed slurry. The slurry is sprayed into microspheres. The microspheres are calcined at a temperature between 700 and 1,000° C. and mixed with a directing agent for crystallization. The resultant solid is filtrated and washed with water and then dried to obtain a final in-situ crystallized product with high content of molecular sieves.

Apparatus and methods for identifying traffic patterns to web sites based on templates that characterize the arrival of traffic to the web sites are provided. Based on these templates, determinations are made as to which web sites should be co-located so as to optimize resource allocation. Specifically, web sites whose templates are complimentary, i.e. a first web site having a peak in arrival traffic at time t1 and a second web site that has a trough in arrival traffic at time t1, are designated as being candidates for co-location. In addition, the present invention uses the templates identified for the traffic patterns of web sites to determine thresholds for offloading traffic to other servers. These thresholds include a first threshold at which offloading should be performed, a second threshold that takes into consideration the lead time needed to begin offloading, and a third threshold that takes into consideration a lag time needed to stop all offloading of traffic to the other servers.

The method and system are capable of automatic alignment of leg-volumes in whole-body MR scans that is insensitive to leg movement. In order to align upper and lower MR volumes, an automatic determination may be made that a junction between the upper and lower MR volumes is in a leg region. The lower MR volume is then divided into left and right regions, and each of the left and right regions are independently aligned with the upper MR volume. One of the left and right regions is then adjusted with respect to the other one to compensate for shifting of the legs with respect to each other.

The present invention is a method and an apparatus for predicting future travel times over a transportation network. In one embodiment, a method for predicting future travel times over a transportation network includes receiving a data point indicating a real-time volume of traffic on the link at a given time and updating a template representative of an observed traffic pattern on the link in accordance with the received data point. A future travel time over the link can then be estimated in accordance with the updated template. Thus, the template is able to adapt to dynamically changing traffic patterns, taking these changing traffic patterns into account when making predictions of future traffic patterns.
