摘要: A method and apparatus for efficiently processing packets from neighboring basic service sets (BSSs) to characterize the traffic within a wireless local area network (WLAN), mesh network, or similar wireless communication system is disclosed. The apparatus may be an access point (AP) in a BSS which includes a measurement period (MP) interval timer, a promiscuous measurement period (PMP) timer and a receiver filter. An interval of the MP interval timer is set while the receiver filter is enabled. During the interval, the AP only processes packets which originated from the AP's own BSS. When the MP interval timer expires, a value of the PMP timer is set to a predetermined time duration and the receiver filter is disabled. During the predetermined time duration, the AP processes all received packets irrespective of which BSS the packets originated from. The receiver filter is again enabled when the PMP timer expires.

摘要: A method and apparatus for implementing a blind seamless channel change (BSCC) when at least one of a plurality of wireless communication devices is jammed on a current communication channel includes the first wireless communication device transmitting a BSCC message on the current communication channel to a second wireless communication device that includes information relating to a communication channel selected from a plurality of available communication channels that the first wireless communication device is switching to next, and a time period when the first wireless communication device will be transmitting on the selected communication channel. The first wireless communication device switches to the selected communication channel. The second wireless communication device receives the BSCC message and switches to the selected communication channel. The first and second wireless communication devices resume normal wireless communication.

摘要: A method and apparatus for alleviating congestion of a wireless medium used by an access point (AP) and a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) is disclosed. If congestion is determined to exist on the wireless medium, a determination is then made as to whether there are any low priority traffic streams established between the AP and at least one of the WTRUs. If there are no low priority traffic streams established between the AP and at least one of the WTRUs, selected ones of the associated WTRUs are disassociated with the AP based on the amount of time spent by the WTRUs trying to transmit and retransmit unacknowledged packets or on a specific traffic stream access category. If low priority traffic streams have been established, the packet transmission delay associated with the low priority traffic streams is increased when congestion exists. Otherwise, the packet transmission delay is decreased.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for estimating the position and velocity of mobile wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) in a wireless communication system. Network stations use directional communication beams to divide service areas into sectors to provide communication services to the WTRUs. A WTRU saves pertinent information such as sector ID, received power and time of reception of the several received signals. The collected information is sent to the network, where it is used to estimate the WTRU's position, speed and direction of travel, which information can then be used to improve radio resource management.

摘要: The present invention is a method and system for managing frequencies allocated to a cell within a cellular network to assign certain ones of those allocated frequencies for use by channel equipment within that cell. The method measures at least one quality metric for each of the allocated frequencies. At least one measured quality metric for the unassigned frequencies are compared against at least one quality metric for the assigned frequencies. An unassigned frequency is swapped for an assigned frequency based upon the comparison step. Additionally, a voting step is used to indicate that either the unassigned frequency or the assigned frequency has a higher signal quality for communication.

摘要: Malfunctioning or misbehaving mobile stations, that are capable nonetheless of continuing to communicate with a wireless communication system, are detected for the purposes of either shutting down misbehaving mobile stations or reporting misbehaving mobile stations so that corrective action can be taken. An error detector and interpreter detects in wireless communication signals received from a mobile station any breach of protocol errors indicative of faulty operation of the mobile station. A misbehavior analyzer analyzes the errors over time to determine whether the mobile station is misbehaving. Normal access of the mobile station to the wireless communication system is shut down or a message is sent to the subscriber in the event the mobile station is determined to be misbehaving. The mobile station also has a shutdown mode of operation, controllable by a message sent from the network, in which the mobile station remains idle and non-functional until repaired. The quality of service to subscribers using the wireless communication system is thus improved.
