    摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to optical interconnects. In one embodiment of the present invention, an optical interconnect comprises a laser configured to output an optical signal and a laser-diode driver electronically coupled to the laser. The laser-diode driver induces the laser to output the optical signal in response to an electrical signal received by the laser-diode driver. The optical interconnect includes a diffractive optical element and a plurality of photodetectors. The optical interconnect is positioned to receive the optical signal and configured to split the optical signal into a plurality of optical signals, and each photodetector converts one of the plurality of optical signals into an electrical signal that is output on a separate signal line.

    摘要: A hybrid electro-optical package for an opto-electronic engine. The package includes a carrier substrate, and a package base. Electrical vias and an optical via of the carrier substrate communicate between a back side and a front side of the carrier substrate. The package base is coupled to the carrier substrate by intra-package electrical interconnects. The carrier substrate is to interconnect electrically with an opto-electronic component mounted on its back side, and includes an optical aperture at its front side for communication of optical signals. Similarly, lands disposed at a front side of the package base provide for communication of electrical signals to an integrated circuit and the opto-electronic component. A system and an opto-electronic engine that include the hybrid electro-optical package are also provided.

The system includes a large core hollow waveguide (30) having a reflective coating (40) covering an interior surface (32) of the hollow waveguide configured to guide a light beam (104). At least one area based beam splitter (50) is integrally formed with the hollow waveguide and has an angled reflective surface (52) with a selectable height (H) relative to the interior surface. The angled reflective surface is oriented to redirect a predetermined amount of the light beam (114) based on the height of the angled reflective surface.

    摘要: An optical connector includes a connector plate having a connecting face operable to mate with a different connecting face on a different optical connector. A slot can be formed in a side of the connector plate and have a length (L) extending from the connecting face to an opposite face in a direction substantially perpendicular to the connecting face. A groove can be formed in a portion of the bottom wall of the slot and can extend at least partially along the length of the slot. The groove can receive an optical fiber. The optical connector can also include a retaining block shaped to fit between side walls of the slot and between the connecting face and the opposite face to retain the optical fiber within the groove.

    摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to optical broadcast buses configured with shared optical interfaces for fan-in and fan-out of optical signals. In one aspect, an optical broadcast bus (100,200,300) comprises a number of optical interfaces (121-123,210,212,216,218,301-303), a fan-in bus (102,202) optically coupled to the number of optical interfaces, and a fan-out bus (104,204) optically coupled to the number of optical interfaces. Each optical interface is configured to convert an electrical signal produced by the at least one node into an optical signal that is received and directed by the fan-in bus to the fan-out bus and broadcast by the fan-out bus to the number of optical interfaces. Each optical interface also converts the optical signal into an electrical signal that is sent to the electronically coupled at least one node for processing.
