    摘要: A method and system is disclosed for intelligent power control in a wireless communication system. In accordance with an example embodiment, a first device will operate in a dynamic-power state in which it transmits a power-increment command or power-decrement command in response to each of periodic comparisons of a signal power level of a signal received from a second device with a threshold power level. While operating in the dynamic-power state, the first device will recognize when it has transmitted a threshold number of alternating power-increment and power-decrement commands, and responsively will transition to operating in a steady-power state in which it continues to transmit alternating power-increment and power-decrement commands even if it detects that the second device has ceased responding to the alternating power-increment and power-decrement commands. While operating in the steady-power state, the first device will recognize when the difference between a currently-received signal power level and the threshold power level is greater than a differential threshold power, and based at least on the recognition will transition to operating in the dynamic power state.

The mobile station selects a downlink frequency from among the M downlink frequencies and selects an uplink frequency from among the N uplink frequencies, independently of the downlink frequency. To make these selections, the mobile station may use a downlink hashing algorithm to map an identifier of the mobile station (such as MDN, MIN, IMSI, or ESN) to one of the M downlink frequencies and an uplink hashing algorithm to map the identifier to one of the N uplink frequencies.

    摘要: Methods and systems for reducing the frequency of handoffs to non-preferred wireless coverage areas are presented. In particular, a RAN may determine that a WCD is likely to begin roaming. The WCD may be served by a preferred wireless coverage area and may be likely to roam to a non-preferred wireless coverage area. In order to avoid drawbacks associated with letting the WCD roam, the RAN may grant the WCD one or more forms of increased service quality. For example, the RAN may use a roaming-likelihood value as a basis for determining a page-concatenation level for the page, concatenate the page according to the determined page-concatenation level, and then transmit the page.

When a communication session is set up for an access terminal (AT) operating in a wireless communication system, a network device, such a base station, can determine a coding rate to assign the AT for its air interface in a manner that accounts for network capacity variations spatially and/or temporally across the session. If the requested communication session is determined to be with a landline device, then a higher coding rate may be used than might otherwise be selected. If the requested session is with another AT, then a coding rate that best accommodates the air interfaces of both ATs may be used. If the AT is predicted to handoff to multiple sectors during the session, then a coding rate that best accommodates the air interfaces of all the predicted handoff sectors may be used.
