摘要: A surgical instrument configured to enable simultaneously driving a bone screw into a boney structure of a patient and delivering of a blade within the patient adjacent the bone screw is disclosed. The surgical instrument may include an elongated outer-sheath extending in a longitudinal direction from a proximal end to a distal end, for example. The elongated outer-sheath may include an interior cavity that defines a centrally disposed longitudinal axis that extends in the longitudinal direction, for example. The surgical tool may include a central-sheath disposed within the interior cavity that extends in the longitudinal direction, for example. The surgical instrument may further include an inner-shaft rotatably supported by the central-sheath that extends in the longitudinal direction, for example. The inner-shaft may include a driver configured to selectively drive a bone screw upon rotation of the inner-shaft about the longitudinal axis, for example.

摘要: An expandable spinal implant includes a distal projection extending from only one side of the implant, ending in an anterior tip, the anterior portion and anterior tip defining an elongated distal end hook, which is wider than the proximal end. The distal end hook rotates around the spinal cord, aligning the implant with a desired pathway, then inserts into place in the disc space between the vertebrae. The elongated widened distal end hook provides a TLIF approach, distributes loads, provides anterior rim engagement, and creates lordosis.

摘要: Implantable medical devices are provided. In one embodiment, a device includes a body having an external surface defining an outer profile of the device. The body includes a porous matrix including a series of interconnected macropores defined by a plurality of interconnected struts each including a hollow interior. A filler material substantially fills at least a portion of the series of interconnected macropores. The external surface of the body includes a plurality of openings communicating with the hollow interior of at least a portion of the plurality of interconnected struts. In a further aspect of this embodiment, the external surface includes exposed areas of the filler material and porous matrix in addition to the exposed openings. In another aspect, the porous matrix is formed from a bioresorbable ceramic and the filler material is a biologically stable polymeric material. Still, other aspects related to this and other embodiments are also disclosed.

摘要: Spinal implant trials are provided having various configurations and sizes that aid the selection of spinal implants having similar configurations and sizes. A surgeon during surgery can insert various configurations and sizes of the spinal implant trials into a disc space between two adjacent vertebral bodies of a patient to enable the selection of a spinal implant configured and sized to fit the patient's disc space. Fluoroscopic images can be used in aiding the selection of an appropriately configured and sized spinal implant corresponding to one of the spinal implant trials. The spinal implant trials include features that reveal on the fluoroscopic images whether the spinal implant trials are properly oriented and positioned in the disc space. As such, the selection of the configuration and size of the spinal implants can be made after it is determined that the spinal implant trials are properly oriented and positioned within the disc space.

摘要: A surgical implant and a method for the making the surgical implant is provided. The surgical implant includes various granules incorporated into an upper surface and a lower surface of a body portion thereof. The granules can be pressed into the upper surface and the lower surface via physical force using at least one mold portion. The physical force applied by the at least one mold portion can deform and/or extrude the upper surface and the lower surface to impregnate these surfaces with the granules. The granules can provide the implant with bioresorbable and/or mechanically-reinforced properties.

摘要: A spinal implant for insertion into a disc space between an upper vertebral body and a lower vertebral body is provided. The spinal implant includes an upper first end plate portion and a lower second end plate portion each extending from at least adjacent a proximal end to a distal end of the spinal implant. The spinal implant is configured to facilitate insertion into the disc space and inhibit withdrawal from the disc space. To the end, the leading end of the spinal implant can be configured to facilitate ease of insertion into the disc space, and an upper surface and a lower surface of the upper first end plant portion and the lower second end plate portion, respectively, can be provided with depressions or dimples forming ridges and points therebetween to inhibit withdrawal from the disc space.
