Abstract:
A computer-implemented place-recognition method comprises searching text for a place-indicating text string (word or character), identifying a place reference from the text based on the place-indicating text string, and looking up the place reference in a place database to determine if the place reference corresponds to a place for which place data is stored in the place database. If the place is already in the database, a menu of user-selectable actions may be presented. If the place is not in the database, the device may ask the user whether the place should be added to the database. Searching the text may also comprise searching the text for one of a plurality of frequent search terms. If a place reference corresponding to a frequent search term is in the database, the place is linked. If not, the place is still linked but only for local search.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to audibly provide messages in a mobile device at described. An example method includes detecting a radio link failure condition, in response to detecting the radio link failure condition, sending a cell update message to a medium access control of the user equipment, detecting that a timer associated with a radio access bearer has expired before receiving confirmation from the medium access control of transmission of the cell update message to a network, and in response to detecting that the timer associated with the radio access bearer has expired and sending the cell update message to the medium access control, maintaining the radio access bearer associated with the timer.
Abstract:
A method performed on an electronic device for clustering personal electronically encoded items. Such items are clustered in response to one or more perspective directives from a user that are received by the device by creating one or more perspectives each representative of a personal area of user interest identified by the user. Responsive to one or more first clustering directives from the user, the system clusters one or more of the user's personal electronically encoded items with one or more of the created one or more perspectives and develops a probability model for managing the user's personal electronically encoded items based on the one or more perspective directives and the one or more first clustering directives.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for encoding and decoding scalable video are described. In one aspect, a method of reconstructing, in a video decoder, an enhancement-layer image based upon a reconstructed reference-layer image using inter-layer prediction is described. The method includes reconstructing a reference-layer residual and a reference-layer prediction, wherein the reference-layer residual and the reference-layer prediction, when combined, form the reconstructed reference-layer image; up-sampling the reference-layer residual using a first up-sampling operation; up-sampling the reference-layer prediction using a second up-sampling operation different from the first up-sampling operation; generating an inter-layer prediction using the up-sampled reference-layer residual and the up-sampled reference-layer prediction; and reconstructing the enhancement-layer image based upon the inter-layer prediction.
Abstract:
A keyboard may include a base portion, a first keyboard portion, a second keyboard portion, and a connection component that couples the second keyboard portion with the base portion. The connection component allows a movement of the second keyboard portion, relative to the base portion and the first keyboard portion, between a first orientation and a second orientation. In some implementations, the keyboard has a longer length dimension when the second keyboard portion is positioned in the second orientation than when the second keyboard portion is positioned in the first orientation.
Abstract:
Using Near Field Communications (NFC) to provision a User Equipment (UE) with Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) data for accessing a wireless services provider's network. An NFC gesture initiates an NFC link between an NFC device and a UE containing NFC circuitry. The NFC link is used to transmit SIM data stored in a memory of the NFC device to the UE. The SIM data is received by the UE and stored in a memory of a SIM module in the UE. Thereafter, the SIM data is used to access the wireless network and obtain communication services therefrom.
Abstract:
In one example embodiment, a processor-implemented method is described. The processor implemented method includes: associating a first notebook with one or more predetermined constraints; receiving input associating a data object with a notebook; and when the notebook associated with the data object is the first notebook, applying the one or more predetermined constraints associated with the first notebook to the data object.
Abstract:
An electronic device and method for sending a message is provided. The electronic device includes a network interface, an input device and a processor in communication with the network interface and the input device. The processor is configured to establish a connection with a plurality of messaging applications, select a messaging service, receive content and input via a messaging composition interface and send the message. The method involves establishing a connection with a plurality of messaging applications, selecting a messaging service, receiving content and input via a messaging composition interface, and sending the message.

An electronic device includes a touch controller, sense electrodes operably coupled to the touch controller, a display controller operably coupled to the touch controller to communicate with the touch controller to detect touches, and drive electrodes operably coupled to the touch controller when the electronic device is operating in a reduced power condition and operably coupled to the display controller when the electronic device is operating in a normal power condition.
Abstract:
Methods and electronic devices for identifying a location of a top electronic device stacked on top of a bottom electronic device are described. In one example embodiment, the top electronic device and the bottom electronic device are configured to communicate. In one example embodiment, the method includes: receiving camera data associated with a camera of the top electronic device; obtaining display data identifying a pixel arrangement on at least a portion of a display of the bottom electronic device; and identifying the position of the top electronic device relative to the bottom electronic device based on the camera data and the display data.
