Abstract: Assigning carriers to radio ports communicably coupled to a corresponding plurality of antennae of a radio head, wherein the radio head is split into at least first and second split portions, determining a difference between a first power level available to the first carrier via the first set of radio ports and a second power level available to the second carrier via the second set of radio ports, and changing a split of the radio head such that the difference between the first and second power levels is minimized.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for setting handover thresholds and dynamically initiating handovers based on antenna parameters and wireless device location. A processor identifies an antenna having a sector power ratio exceeding a predefined threshold. Undesirable locations for wireless devices relative to the antenna are determined based on stored information and a first handover threshold is set for wireless devices served by the antenna and in undesirable locations. When a wireless device is found in the undesired location and the sector power ratio exceeds the predefined threshold, the first handover threshold is met. A handover may be initiated.

Abstract: A method for adjusting the frequency of one or both of buffer status reporting and power headroom reporting of a wireless device includes identifying a wireless device positioned at an edge portion of a coverage area of an access node, determining a packet loss associated with data transmission from the access node through the cell site router to an external network communicatively coupled to the cell site router, and based at least in part on the packet loss, adjusting one or both of a buffer status reporting frequency of the wireless device and a power headroom reporting frequency of the wireless device. Systems and devices relate to adjusting the frequency of one or both of buffer status reporting and power headroom reporting of a wireless device.

Abstract: A system for dynamically modifying a buffer in a network deploying multiple carriers is provided. Each carrier operating over the network utilizes a radio access technology (RAT). The system includes a network load monitoring processor that measures a network load on carriers using a first RAT to produce a measured value and a buffer management processor that receives the measured value, performs a comparison of the measured value with a predetermined value, and dynamically modifies a size of the buffer when the measured value exceeds the predetermined value.

Abstract: Access nodes in a network are configured to periodically measure cell loads and exchange cell load measurements with neighbors. At each access node, cell loads are compared with load thresholds, and with neighboring loads, to determine whether or not load balancing operations should be triggered. Load balancing operations include reducing or increasing an effective coverage area of one or both of the congested cell and the neighbor cell by adjusting a handover threshold parameter, such as a threshold signal level. Adjusting thresholds at a congested cell triggers more handovers from the congested cell to the non-congested cell. Similarly, adjusting thresholds at a non-congested cell prevents handovers from the non-congested cell to the congested cell.

Abstract: A system for dynamically setting a frame configuration in a wireless network in an emergency event includes an access node configured to deploy a first radio air interface. The system also includes a plurality of end-user wireless devices attached to the first radio air interface. The system further includes a processor configured to determine a trigger indicating the emergency event associated with one or more of the plurality of end-user wireless devices. The processor is also configured to switch the frame configuration for the access node from a first frame configuration to a second frame configuration, the second frame configuration including more uplink subframes than the first frame configuration.

Abstract: A method of managing handovers between a plurality of relay access nodes, the method includes monitoring a latency of a donor access node communicating with the plurality of relay access nodes; determining that a quality of service corresponding to a wireless device communicating with a relay access node of the plurality of relay access nodes meets a quality of service criteria; and in response to the latency meeting a threshold, instructing the relay access node to handover the wireless device to a target access node, or instructing the donor access node to handover the relay access node to the target access node, where the target access node is the donor access node, a neighboring access node, or a second relay access node served by the neighboring access node.
