A method for laser marking a golf ball includes providing a golf ball including a core and a shell. Infusing the shell of the golf ball with a laser marking substrate including an initial substrate color, wherein shell includes an exterior surface and an original shell color. Marking the golf ball while maintaining an original shape of the exterior surface between a pre-marked configuration and a post-marked configuration. Marking the golf ball further including exposing a portion of the shell to a laser beam, and modifying the original shell color of the portion of the shell exposed to the laser beam. The modification of the original shell color corresponds to an alteration of the initial substrate color in response to exposure to the laser, wherein the alternation of the initial substrate color is within the shell.

The invention provides a solid golf ball which has a core of at least one layer and a cover of at least one layer. At least one layer of the core is formed primarily of polybutadiene and includes at least 0.05 part by weight each of (I) a rubber powder obtained by granulating a rubber material containing acrylic acid or a metal salt of acrylic acid and (II) a polyurethane resin powder per 100 parts by weight of rubber component. At least one layer of the cover is formed primarily of polyurethane.

The core is formed of a rubber composition containing a base rubber, a co-crosslinking agent, a crosslinking initiator and a metal oxide. The base rubber contains polybutadiene, a styrene-butadiene rubber and, optionally, an isoprene rubber. The co-crosslinking agent is methacrylic acid, and the rubber composition includes a specific waste material in the form of a powder. The core deflection and the cover material are optimized. Utilizing a waste material in a solid golf ball conserves resources and thus is beneficial to the global environment. Even during prolonged use, the golf ball maintains its basic performance attributes (feel, flight, durability) at a high level.

Multi-layered golf balls having an inner core, at least one intermediate layer, and outer cover are provided. The outer cover is made from am ultra-low melt index (ULMI) thermoplastic material using an in-molding coating process that involves applying a thin layer of the material to the interior surface of the cover mold members. Preferably, the ultra-low melt index material is a highly neutralized ionomer ethylene-based copolymer. The cover layers made from these highly neutralized polymers (HNPs) are thin and uniform and provide the golf ball with good playing performance properties. Yet, the cover layers also are tough and provide the golf ball with good impact durability.
