    摘要: A molding for mounting a window panel in a window opening larger than the window panel includes a yieldable elastomeric body having a first groove adapted to receive an edge of the window panel and a second groove adapted to receive an edge of the body panel. The molding has a deformable hollow tubular member embedded therein and extending in parallel relationship with the grooves. After the molding and the window panel are installed in the opening the tubular member is crushed and the deformation of the tubular member spreads the elastomeric molding into permanent engagement with the window panel and/or the body panel to thereby permanently and sealingly mount the window in the vehicle body. The molding preferably includes a base portion which fits between the edge of the glass and the edge of the body panel and first and second spaced apart legs which define the groove receiving the edge of one of the panels. Third and fourth legs also extend from the body to define the second groove receiving the other panel. The fourth leg is shorter than the other legs so that the short leg facilitates assembly of the molding with respect to the two panels. Crushing of the tubular member spreads the fourth leg to permanently and fixedly mount the window on the vehicle body.

    摘要: A deflatable sealing member forms a weatherstrip to seal a closure opening for a vehicle. The sealing member includes a sealed tubular section to provide tight interference engagement between the closure and the vehicle body. A rolling diaphragm pump deflates the sealing member during closing of the closure. Upon deflation, the sealing member collapses to a reduced cross section. This permits easier closing of the closure and avoids compression shock, common on vehicles having tight fitting weatherstriping. An atmospheric vent valve vents the sealing member to the atmosphere upon closing. As a result, the inherent resiliency of the sealing member returns it to full cross section, restoring the desired tight interference engagement. A vacuum limiter valve is provided to limit the level of vacuum within the pump in order to maintain the closing force below a desired maximum.

    摘要: A vehicle door seal with a channel shaped gripping part is mounted on a bodywork flange defining the door opening and this part supports a tubular sealing part such as made of plastics or rubber of cellular or foamed configuration. The air pressure within the latter can be increased or decreased by means of an air pump connected to a tubular extension. When the door is opened, the air within the sealing part is evacuated and the sealing part collapses to permit easy closing of the door. When the door is closed, the air pressure within the tubular part is increased so as to inflate the sealing part towards its circular configuration and to bring it into sealing engagement with the closed door. The interior of the sealing part is lined with an air-impervious lining and this and the interior of the part are formed with grooves which are so configured that the collapsed sealing part has a neat appearance.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for sealing between a movable vehicular closure and body, especially adapted for an automobile, is disclosed. A deflatable sealing member forms a weatherstrip to seal the opening in the vehicle body and includes an operable tubular portion and an integral mounting portion. The sealing member is designed for resilient interference engagement between the closure and the body when expanded by the built-in resilient memory. The closure is mounted so as to provide relative transverse movement between the sealing member and one of said closure and said body during closing. In order to deflate the sealing member, a vacuum source, which may be a bellows pump, separate electric pump, engine vacuum, or the like, is connected to the single port of the sealing member and is activated at least during the closing of the closure. After closing, the control valves switch from the vacuum source to a vent to ambient pressure thereby inflating the sealing member. With the sealing member deflated, the closing effort of the closure is substantially reduced and compression shock inside the vehicle is eliminated. Two alternative embodiments featuring the alternative vacuum sources and valving arrangements are included. Also, a relatively non-deflatable bumper portion of the sealing member is disclosed to absorb shock during closing.
