Abstract: A device may be configured for performing signal processing in impedance sensing applications, and more specifically, for recovering data from an amplitude-modulated signal. In one aspect, a device includes a sensing circuit operable to sense an amplitude-modulated signal having a carrier frequency. The device also includes a mixer operable to mix the amplitude-modulated signal with a mixing signal having a mixing frequency to provide a frequency-downshifted signal having an intermediate frequency less than the carrier frequency. The device also includes a filter operable to filter the frequency-downshifted signal to provide a filtered signal. The device further includes a sampler operable to undersample the filtered signal at an undersampling frequency to provide a digital signal, the digital signal being representative of a modulating signal.

Abstract: In one aspect, a photoplethysmograph system to measure a user's heart rate includes one or more light-emitting diodes (LED) that provide a constantly-on light signal during a measurement period. The one or more light-emitting diodes are in optical contact with an epidermal surface of the user. The one or more light-emitting diodes emit a light signal into the tissue of the user, and wherein the tissue contains a pulsating blood flow. A light-intensity sensor circuit converts the reflected LED light from the tissue into a second signal that is proportional to a reflected light intensity. The second signal includes a voltage or current signal. A computer-processing module calculates the user's beat-to-beat heart rate from the second current signal.

Abstract: Method and system for monitoring an internal electrical impedance of a biological object including Internal Thoracic Impedance (ITI) comprising placing two arrays of electrodes on opposite sides of the biological object, wherein each of said two arrays comprise three equally spaced electrodes; imposing an alternating electrical current between pairs of the electrodes and obtaining voltage signals representative of a voltage drop thereon, calculating two values of internal electrical impedance of the biological object corresponding to the uttermost electrodes of said two arrays of electrodes placed on the opposite sides of the biological object.

Abstract: A system for monitoring blood pressure includes an implantable medical device (IMD) and an external device (ED). The IMD senses an electrogram (EGM) signal, identifies a feature thereof indicative of a ventricular depolarization, and transmits a conductive communication signal through patient tissue indicating when the ventricular depolarization occurred. The ED is worn against skin and configured to receive the conductive communication signal. The ED is also configured to sense a plethysmography (PG) signal and identify a feature thereof indicative of when a pulse wave responsive to the ventricular depolarization reaches a region of the patient adjacent the ED, and determine a delay time (TD) indicative of how long it takes the pulse wave to travel from the patient's heart to the region of the patient adjacent to the ED. The TD is a surrogate of the patient's blood pressure and useful for monitoring the patient's blood pressure and/or changes therein.

Abstract: An approach is provided for synchronizing an impedance cardiography (“ICG”) measurement period with an electrocardiography (“ECG”) signal to reduce patient (105) auxiliary current. The approach involves measuring an ECG signal of a patient via an ECG device (103). The approach also involves processing the ECG signal to cause, at least in part, a detection of one or more ECG features of the signal. The approach further involves synchronizing a start, a stop, or a combination thereof of a measurement of an ICG signal of the patient via an ICG device (101) based, at least in part, on the detection of the one or more ECG features. The measurement of the ICG signal includes injecting an electrical current into the patient (105) for a duration of the measurement.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the disclosure are directed to an apparatus including a scale and external circuitry. The scale includes a platform for a user to stand on, and data-procurement circuitry for collecting signals indicative of the user's identity and cardio-physiological measurements while the user is standing on the platform. The scale includes processing circuitry to process data obtained by the data-procurement circuitry and therefrom generate cardio-related physiologic data, and an output circuit to send user data from the scale for reception at a remote location. The external circuitry receives and validates the user data as concerning a specific user associated with a user ID and determine at least one physiologic parameter of the user using the user data. Further, the external circuitry derives additional health information corresponding to the user data based on categories of interest and outputs the additional health information to the scale for display.
