Abstract: This disclosure provides for an auditory modification apparatus to facilitate extraction of information from an auditory observation stream. The approach may be used to reveal features about the environment, or to simplify processing of the incoming audio stream. The apparatus acts on the incoming auditory stream by nature of its shape, and that shape either is passively static or actively manipulated. Preferably, the apparatus has given shape characteristics to reveal features of the environment, such as directionality of a noise, size of an enclosed space, or materials of its construction, that are not otherwise detectable or easy to process with conventional approaches. Further advantage exists in the notion of actively manipulating the shape of the apparatus in conjunction with its operation to facilitate information extraction in a dynamic manner.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the acoustic metamaterial structural unit with the function of soundproof, flow-passing and heat-transferring enhancement, which comprises a frame, a constraint placed in the frame and a piece of membrane covering at least one surface of the frame; both the frame and the membrane are respectively placed at least one hole. Besides, the present invention also provides the acoustic metamaterial composite plate and the composite structure constructed with the acoustic metamaterial structural unit; the method for adjusting the frequency and the assemble method. The present structural unit possesses better soundproof property than the routine perforated plated or micro-perforated plate in broad operating frequency. And also the enough heat flow, gas flow or fluid flow can pass through smoothly. The diffuse efficiency of the heat energy of the mediums on both sides of the hole is increased by the vibration of the self-structure under the excitation of the soundwave and further the efficiency of heat exchange is accelerated. The method for assembling the acoustic metamaterial composite structure with the acoustic metamaterial structural units is simple. The operation performance is steady.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for improving the sound quality of a sound reproduction or recording in a room, the method comprising the steps of measuring an impulse response that comprises the linear response of the room; performing a time domain analysis to determine the resonances of the room and for a chosen group of room resonances determining a corresponding group of filters that, when inserted in a sound reproduction or recording chain in said room will counteract the unwanted effect of said chosen group of room resonances on the sound quality of sound reproduction or recording made in the room. The invention further relates to a device designed to implement the method according to the invention and to the use of a measure of amplitude decay as a function of frequency of a measured impulse response of a sound reproduction or recording system in a room to determine one or more resonance frequencies, the total or partial compensation of which will improve the sound quality of sound reproductions or recordings made in the room.

Abstract: Broadband acoustic absorbers may be capable providing good absorption performance between 0 and 3,000 Hz, and particularly below 1,000 Hz. Reeds may be incorporated in a single layer, multiple layers, or bundles. Such broadband acoustic absorbers may be applied for acoustic absorption in aircraft, spacecraft, residential and commercial buildings, vehicles, industrial environments, wind tunnels, or any other suitable environment or application where noise reduction is desired.

Abstract: Some embodiments are directed to an elementary acoustic metamaterial cell, including a body made of solid material and at least one resonator defining a groove of width l and depth p, the groove being open on the surface of the body, wherein the depth p is set by a resonant frequency (f) of the cell according to a relationship x, c being the speed of sound in air and the width l is set by an energy density confined in the cell according to a logarithmic relationship Emax αlog (l) determined experimentally, the groove having an acoustic absorption controlled by a ratio between the depth p and the width l of the groove. Some embodiments are also directed to an acoustic screen including such an elementary cell.

Abstract: Spin qubits are situated in mechanical resonators that are acoustically coupled with acoustic waveguides. The acoustic waveguides provide frequency dependent phonon propagation selected so that mechanical resonators adjacent to a selected mechanical resonator are acoustically coupled to the selected mechanical resonator in different acoustic frequency ranges. This configure permits directional transfer of quantum states between spins in spin-mechanical resonator and provides a scalable platform for spin-based quantum computing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a noise cancelling earset having an acoustic filter. The earset includes a dynamic driver unit configured to generate a sound, and an acoustic filter configured to cover a back hole formed in a back of the dynamic driver unit, so that the acoustic filter allows air to pass, but does not allow extraneous noise to pass. The acoustic filter includes filter layers selectively formed with a through-hole and a sound passage, and plates with a through-hole selectively communicating with the through-hole and the sound passage. The filter layers and the plates are alternatively disposed on each other, and the through-holes of the plates communicate with the through-holes or the sound passages of the filter layers.
