摘要： Fast acting actuation system which is especially suitable for automatic sprinklers and other emergency devices. The system includes a fast-acting low mass thermally responsive element comprising a pair of thin metal strips soldered together, a percussion member such as a firing pin which is released when the solder in the thermally responsive element melts, and an actuator, preferably a radially expandable explosive actuator, which is initiated by the firing pin. The actuator when initiated causes rapid actuation of the automatic sprinkler or other device.

摘要： An elongated, aerodynamically improved ballistic projectile fuse, having an overall fuse length greater than its maximum diameter by a factor of approximately two, includes a lightweight aluminum fuse body having forward and rearward portions and an interiorily disposed firing pin with a shearable flange thereon. A steel sleeve mounted in the fuse body is provided for supporting the firing pin with a head portion thereof forwardly directed and exterior to the sleeve and for guiding the firing pin through the fuse body toward the rearward portion thereof subsequent to impact of the fuse with a target. A cap, enclosing the firing pin head, is configured for collapsing and impacting the head upon fuse impact with a target, thereby causing shearing of the firing pin flange and driving of the firing pin rearwardly toward detonation means disposed within the fuse body rearward portion. The cap is in turn enclosed by a windscreen which provides an aerodynamically streamlined, forward continuation of the fuse body. Means joining the windscreen to the sleeve enables separation therebetween on target impact, thereby enabling the windscreen to collapse the cap.

摘要： An inductance fuze for armor defeating shells and missiles that utilizes ped neutralization, i.e., cancellation of an AC voltage, induced by a primary coil in a sensing coil under free-space conditions, by an equal and opposite voltage. The lumped neutralizing voltage is obtained from a neutralizing coil that is also coupled to the primary. Adjustment of neutralization is made by translating axially either the sensing coil, the neutralizing coil or both relative to the primary coil. The physical configurations of the coils can be adjusted to be accommodated within the fuze ogive as long as a certain relationship involving the number of turns and the flux amplitudes is maintained.

摘要： This invention deals with the problem of premature functioning of shells with point detonating fuzes. A diffuser is provided in a fuze head to prevent a direct impact on the detonator by providing an effective cover to all elements of the detonator. This is done by providing the fuze head with a twisted flat, rectangular plate, which is substantially rigid for protection against, solid objects, the build-up of a large volume of rain and inhibit direct impact of such material upon the detonator.

摘要： A percussion fuse for use in projectiles includes a cylindrical bore in a housing and a carrier in the bore for supporting at least one primer and which is moved to a fusing position where it may be detonated following firing of the projectile. A resilient deformable seal ring is attached to the carrier and is deformed by the walls of the bore during movement therethrough to retard movement of the carrier and delay fusing. A multiple position stop device may be used to stop a selected one of a plurality of different primers at the fusing position.

摘要： A cylindrical fuze housing is rotatably mounted in a shell case on the spin axis and supported by an inner or central rear ball thrust bearing on said axis and by an outer ring or annular ball bearing within the shell case. The outer ring bearing is supported by a deformable thrust ring and the rear thrust ball is likewise mounted in a housing which, in turn, is supported by a second deformable thrust ring connected with the casing. The deformable rings take up the setback shock, and the bearings provide rotational movement between the shell case and the timing mechanism of the fuze, thereby protecting it from error due to shock and rotation.
