    Abstract: A heavy-duty vehicle measurement system utilizing displacement sensor modules disposed in housings on opposite sides of a vehicle inspection lane to acquire a set of displacement measurements associated with a moving heavy-duty vehicle. Displacement data along one or more measurement axes is acquired independently by each of the displacement sensor module to measure corresponding distances between the sensor module and points on a surface of the passing heavy-duty. A processing system is configured to receive and evaluate the set of displacement measurements, together with known parameters of the measurement system, to identify heavy-duty vehicle features, such as configuration, body panels, wheel assemblies, and tire surfaces, and to calculate heavy-duty vehicle parameters such as velocity, wheel rim or tire dimensions, axle relative orientations (scrub angles) and wheel assembly spatial orientations.

    Abstract: A wheel adaptor for placement against a rim edge of a wheel having a recessed central hub. The adaptor comprises a base supporting, on an inboard side, a framework for synchronous radial adjustment of at least three contact surfaces. An axially adjustable target mount is secured to the base on an outboard side. A spring-biased clamp is coupled to the base, positioned axially inboard of the target mount. Extending radially outward from the clamp, a pair of wheel clamp arms are adjustably configured to engage the tread surface of a tire when placed against the wheel. Engagement of the clamp applies a grips the tire tread surface, holding the contact surfaces against the wheel. A radially outward position of the contact surfaces along the base is controlled by a rotating selection element and a set of linkages coupling each contract surface to the selection element.

    Abstract: An axial clamping system for securing a wheel assembly onto a tire changer drive spindle. The clamping system consists of a shaft for engaging an axial bore of the drive spindle, configured with a set of ball bearings seated within radial bore arranged in a spiral configuration and which extend into a central bore of the shaft. Axial movement of a plunger within the central bore radially displaces the ball bearings to protrude outboard of the shaft outer surface, engaging a spiral channel within the drive spindle axial bore. Rotation of the clamping system within the drive spindle axial bore while the ball bearings engage the spiral channels, tightens a clamp nut against a wheel assembly seated on a flange of the drive spindle. Counter rotation and retraction of the plunger within the shaft releases the clamping forces, allowing for removal of the wheel assembly from the drive spindle.

    Abstract: An adjustable hub adapter for coupling an on-car brake lathe to a wheel hub. An annular support frame coaxially carries an axially bored and threaded central mounting hub with a set of equidistantly spaced spokes. A lug bolt receiver is associated with each spoke, and consists of a receiving tube, a lever arm pivotally coupled to the spoke at a pivot bolt in proximity to the annular support frame. An engagement pin on each lever arm is captured within a synchronizing ring carried on the annular support frame. The rotational movement of any lug bolt receiver about an axis of the pivot bolt imparts rotational movement to the synchronizing ring, and in turn, causes each remaining bolt receiver to rotate about an associated pivot bolt axis, maintaining the lug bolt receivers in a synchronized and symmetric radial displacement from the central mounting hub.

    Abstract: A support structure having a vertical element supporting a set of cameras associated with a vehicle measurement or inspection system together with at least one target structure required for realignment or recalibration of onboard vehicle safety system sensors. A camera crossbeam carried by the support structure locates the set of cameras as required to view a vehicle undergoing measurement or inspection. The target structure is affixed to the vertical element of the support structure, at an elevation suitable for observation by at least one vehicle onboard sensors during a realignment or recalibration procedure. A set of rollers facilitates positioning of the target structure on a supporting floor surface during a realignment or recalibration procedure.
