摘要: An apparatus includes an occlusion device operable to fit securely in an anatomical passageway within a head of a human. The occlusion device is configured to move unitarily with the head when the occlusion device is installed in the anatomical passageway. The occlusion device is further configured to prevent passage of fluid through the anatomical passageway when the occlusion device is installed in the anatomical passageway. A position sensor is fixedly integrated into the occlusion device. The position sensor generates signals indicating a position of the occlusion device in three-dimensional space, thereby indicating the position of the head in three-dimensional space. A connector communicatively coupled to the position sensor is operable to receive and transmit the signals generated by the position sensor.

To provide a means of treating such target anatomies over time, drug delivery devices that are sized to be positioned within a naturally occurring or man-made anatomical cavity or passageway are preloaded with active agent(s). The drug delivery devices are affixed directly to, or in the vicinity of, a target anatomy. Once affixed, the drug delivery devices are configured to deliver active agent(s) at desired dosage(s) to the target anatomy through controlled elution of the active agent(s) as various structural features of the drug delivery devices are bio-eliminated.

摘要: An array of sensors may be used to perform touchless registration of landmarks of a patient's face before an ENT procedure in order to associate those landmarks with pre-operative images in three-dimensional space, which is required for image guided surgery features such as navigation. Touchless or light-touch registration may improve accuracy by avoiding the need for substantial pressing against a patient's skin, which may deform and thereby introduce erroneous registration data. A sensor may also be implemented in forms other than an array such as handheld probe having a single sensor as opposed to an array.

摘要: An apparatus such as a suction instrument includes a position sensor proximate to a distal tip of a malleable shaft. A sensor wire couples the position sensor to a processor of an image guided surgery system such that signals generated by the position sensor can be interpreted to determine the position of the surgical instrument. The malleable shaft includes a malleable outer shaft and a flexible inner tube. The flexible inner tube includes a primary lumen that can provide suction, fluid, or various deployable surgical tools, and an inner lumen that holds the sensor wire. Protected within the inner lumen, the sensor wire runs the length of the shaft and exits the inner lumen and passes through a slot in the outer shaft to reach the position sensor. A heat shrink cover wraps the distal tip, sealing the components together and providing an opening suitable for suction.

The moveable optical element is configured to provide a field of view defining a line of sight, and is operable to capture an image within the field of view. The system further includes a drive mechanism operable to move the movable optical element to adjust a direction of the line of sight, a navigation sensor operable to generate a signal corresponding to a location of the distal shaft end within a patient, and a processor. The processor is operable to determine a location of the distal shaft end within the patient based on the signal, and command the drive mechanism to position the movable optical element so the line of sight is directed toward a selected point of interest within the patient.

The steering assembly is configured to laterally deflect at least a portion of the guidewire relative to the handle assembly. The steering assembly includes an actuator coupled with the handle assembly and a pull wire extending between the actuator and guidewire. A portion of the pull wire is attached to the guidewire. The actuator is configured to move the pull wire relative to the handle assembly in order to laterally deflect the at least a portion of the guidewire.
