    摘要: An electroluminescence device having a layer containing a specific metal coordination compound is provided. The metal coordination compound is represented by formula (1) below: MLmL′n  (1), wherein M is a metal atom of Ir, Pt, Rh or Pd; L and L′ are mutually different bidentate ligands; m is 1, 2 or 3 and n is 0, 1 or 2 with the proviso that m+n is 2 or 3; a partial structure MLm is represented by formula (2) shown below and a partial structure ML′n is represented by formula (3) or (4) shown below: The metal coordination compound of the formula (1) is characterized by having at least one aromatic substituent for at least one of CyN1, CyN2, CyC1 and CyC2. The metal coordination compound having the aromatic substituent is effective in providing high-efficiency luminescence, long-term high luminance, and less deterioration by current passing.

    摘要: A liquid crystal device, suitably included in e.g., an organic EL device, is formed of a pair of electrodes and a plurality of layers disposed between the electrodes and including at least one liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer comprises a liquid crystal composition having an electronic carrier-transporting function and comprising at least two compounds including at least one electron-donating compound or electron-accepting compound having a &pgr;-electron conjugated structure. As a result of doping the liquid crystal layer with the electron-donating or electron-accepting compound, the current conduction performance of the liquid crystal layer is improved presumably due to the generation of free carriers therein, whereby a functional device including the liquid crystal device can be improved as a whole.

    摘要: In a conductive liquid crystal device, particularly an organic EL device, including a carrier transporting layer of a conductive liquid crystal and a functional organic layer disposed between a pair of electrodes, a protective layer having a carrier transporting characteristic is inserted between the carrier transporting layer and the organic layer. As a result, deterioration, such as the occurrence of molecular association (such as exciplex), at the boundary between the carrier transporting layer and the organic layer can be effectively prevented, whereby a sufficient luminescence can be attained at a lower voltage to improve the durability of the organic EL device.
