摘要： An optical waveguide element having a directional coupler is disclosed. The element includes a first and a second waveguide located adjacent to each other at a predetermined portion for mode coupling, a first dummy waveguide extending from an one end of the second waveguide, a reflector installed on an end surface of the first dummy waveguide, and a second dummy waveguide located adjacent to the first dummy waveguide at a predetermined portion for a mode coupling. The optical signals progressing from the second dummy waveguide to the first dummy waveguide disappear while sequentially passing through the reflector and the second dummy waveguide. In the optical waveguide element, optical signals passing through the first dummy waveguide gradually disappear while passing through the reflector and the second dummy waveguide, thereby improving a bi-directional cross-talk.

摘要： An athermal arrayed-waveguide grating is disclosed and includes an input waveguide for inputting two or more optical signals from one exterior side, a grating array for separating the optical signals into different wavelengths of light, a first slab, formed with two layers and having different refractive indices from each other, for connecting the input waveguide with the grating array, a second slab for causing the different light wavelengths separated at the grating array to be imaged on an egress surface thereof, and an output waveguide array for outputting each light wavelength imaged on the egress surface of the second slab to the other exterior side in the form of a separated channel.

摘要： A key pad lighting apparatus for a portable terminal includes: a waveguide in which a plurality of key buttons are arranged at one surface thereof; at least one light source provided at one side of the waveguide for introducing the light into the waveguide; and a guide member surrounding the light source for preventing a discharge of the light and for guiding the light into the waveguide. The key pad lighting apparatus can uniformly illuminate the key buttons installed in the key pad with a few light source using less light sources which helps to reduce the power consumption.

A method for fabricating the optical waveguide is also disclosed. The optical waveguide includes a substrate, a lower clad layer doped with a dopant in a content varying continuously in a thickness direction of the lower clad layer, so that the lower clad layer exhibits a refractive index distribution varying in the thickness direction thereof, and a core layer formed over the lower clad layer.
