Abstract:
A displacement indicator device 10 for a press brake compensator 16 includes a first recess 20 in a lower wall of a preselected portion or a die holder member 14 of the press brake compensator 16, an indicator rod 18 snugly inserted into the first recess 20, a second recess 34 in a side wall 36 of a preselected portion of a wedge portion 38 of the press brake compensator 16, and a lifting cam 40 snugly inserted into the second recess 34. The indicator rod 18 is displaced by the movement of the preselected portion of the wedge portion 38. The indicator rod 18 displacement corresponds to the vertical displacement of the die holder member 14. An indicating scale 32 discloses the amount of displacement of the preselected portion of the die holder member 14 by aligning a reference mark 28 on the indicator rod 18 with a horizontal line and corresponding number on the indicating scale 32. The measuring of the vertical displacement of the die holder member 14, is ultimately used for the fast set-up of the press brake compensator 16 when a press brake is utilized to duplicate bends impressed upon substantially identical workpieces.
Abstract:
A bending method and bending apparatus directed to avoiding the risk of die breakage and damage to ram coupling parts due to an abnormal condition of a ram drive shaft and directed to achieving high-accuracy bending in which a uniform bend angle can be produced throughout the entire length of a workpiece without forming a boat-formed belly. In a press brake having three or more drive shafts, the deformation amounts of the ram and the table at each shaft-load imposed point are calculated based on input bending process data. A target closest distance between the punch and the die at each shaft-load imposed point is calculated from its corresponding deformation amounts. The difference between the actual bend angle of the workpiece after bending and a target bend angle is obtained at at least three positions, that are, the ends and center of the workpiece. From these differences, a correction amount for the moving amount of the ram at each shaft-load imposed point is obtained. Further, an adequate limit for the pressing force to be generated by each drive shaft is calculated based on the bending process data and the ram is driven by independently controlling each drive shaft so as not to generate a pressing force exceeding the set limit. To detect an abnormal situation due to abnormal movement of a drive shaft, a line connecting the positions of the drive shafts disposed at the points corresponding to the ends of the workpiece is obtained and the respective deviations of other drive shafts from the connecting line are obtained. If one of the deviations exceeds a preset allowable value, an abnormal situation is detected.
Abstract:
The angle of bend is detected at a plurality of points in a workpiece by angle detecting units during bending of the workpiece. Based on the difference between the bend angle detected at each point and a target bend angle for the workpiece, ball screws are controlled so as to deform a bed for supporting an upper die or lower die, thereby compensating for the boat form of the workpiece.

Abstract:
The upper and lower frames of a folding press include a deflector capable of producing a deflection of at least one portion of a press member. A comparison device is provided which includes two longitudinal bars arranged, respectively, in longitudinal housings of each of the upper and lower frames. One of the ends of each of the bars is secured to its respective housing, the other end of each of the bars being free to move longitudinally in the housings and being connected to a measuring device respectively fixed to each of the upper and lower frames, so as to measure the respective movements of the other ends of the bars in their respective housings in response to any deflection of the upper and lower frames. The comparison device is arranged for controlling the deflector to compensate for any difference in deflection of the frames.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method of bending a sheet metal piece by means of a bending apparatus. The bending apparatus comprises a bending bar, a bending bar holder, a bottom die comprising an adjustable die bottom and a bending bottom die holder. The method of the invention is particularly suitable for bending sheet metal pieces which are shorter than the bending bar and the bending bottom die. In order to compensate for irregularities during the bending, the regions of the bending bar and bending die, respectivley, which are not influenced by the reactive forces of the sheet metal piece to be bent, are under the influence of compensating members bridging the air gap resulting between bending bar and bending die. Thus, the bending press is evenly loaded and the sheet metal work piece can be bent into an exactly predetermined bending angle.
