摘要: In the process of the invention, the seed to be treated, a predetermined amount of solid matrix material and a predetermined amount of water are admixed and the mixture allowed to stand, preferably in a container which allows entry of air but which reduces evaporative losses, for example, a closed container with a small top opening, for a time and at a temperature sufficient to allow the seeds to imbibe water from the matrix and come to a water content equilibrium sufficient to enhance resultant plant vigor, i.e., enhance emergence, growth or yield characteristics, but short of that which would cause the seed to sprout. The seeds and matrix may be inoculated with beneficial microorganisms during priming. Moreover, inoculate seeds and matrix may be used to inoculate soil.

摘要: The invention provides a method for accelerating and synchronizing seed germination comprising subjecting a population of seeds to a plurality of hydration and dehydration periods. In the hydration period, seeds are contacted with liquid water for a time less than time required for continuously hydrated seeds of the same species to germinate. In the dehydration period which follows the hydration periods seeds are removed from contact with liquid water and dehyrated at about 80% or greater relative humidity. Seeds are cycled through alternating hydration and dehydration periods to yield a final population of seeds which germinates rapidly and in substantial synchronicity upon re-exposure to liquid water. The dehydrated population of seeds may be further dried at relative humidities of less than about 40% so that the final population of seeds may be stored under ambient conditions before re-exposure to liquid water.

摘要: A device for cultivating bean sprouts comprises at least one cultivating container, a bubble generating pump, a control unit which controls the bubble generating pump, a timer, an electric heater, and a temperature sensor. Also, the device further comprises a U-shaped tube for supplying the water in a water reservoir tank to a water-ascending pipe which is disposed in the center of the cultivating container. An air conduit injects air bubbles into the water ascending pipe which terminates in a T-shaped rotable injection pipe disposed at the top end of the of the water-ascending pipe. Spaced-apart sieve plates are disposed on the top and the bottom of the cultivating container for housing and treating the beam sprouts which can be automatically irrigated.

摘要: An incubator for laboratory use which includes a housing defining a thermally insulated inner chamber having a controlled gas atmosphere. Devices for sensing characteristics of the incubator chamber atmosphere, and for conditioning the atmosphere, are positioned in a gas recirculation path outside the incubator chamber. The gas atmosphere of the incubator chamber circulates from a chamber outlet in an upper portion of the chamber, through the recirculation path, returning to the incubator chamber through a chamber inlet in a lower portion of the chamber. Included in the recirculation path are a blower for recirculating the chamber atmosphere, a filter, a CO.sub.2 sensor, and a humidifier. A microprocessor-based controller is responsive to the output of the CO.sub.2 sensor to effect the addition of CO.sub.2 to the recirculating gas to maintain a selected CO.sub.2 level in the chamber atmosphere. Upper and lower diffuser plates in the incubator chamber define upper and lower plenums, respectively. The upper plenum communicates with the chamber outlet, and the lower plenum communicates with the chamber inlet, to produce an upward vertical laminar flow of the gas atmosphere through the chamber. The incubator chamber walls are spaced inwardly from insulated outer walls to provide an enclosed air space about the outside of the chamber wall. Heaters inside the air space, spaced apart from the inner wall, are sized to produce substantially even heating of the chamber through convection in the air space.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for the generation of sprouts from material capable of sprouting, in particular for seeds, grains, leguminous fruits, as well as for the hydroponic planting of grasses for human consumption with at least one container receiving the material for sprouting and at least one dish filled with liquid, into which the sprouting container can dip via a lift drive mechanism. The sprouting container is formed as a sieve and is constructed for easy exchangeability by being disposed in a recess or opening of a support plate. The support plate rests on a side frame. The lift drive mechanism is disposed at the side frame and is effective between the support plate and the dish to provide for dipping the sprouting container into the dish and for separating the sprouting container from the dish.

摘要: A sprouting apparatus (10) is disclosed which is suitable for the merchandising of seeds to be sprouted, the actual sprouting of the seeds, and the storage of the resulting sprouts. The sprouting apparatus (10) includes an outer container (12) which receives therein an inner container (14) in which the seeds are actually sprouted. The assembly is covered by a dome member (16). Nesting structure (24, 28) is provided on the inner and outer containers (14 and 12) so that an air passage is maintained between the inner and outer containers (14 and 12) at all times.

摘要: A plurality of perforated individual seed germinating and sprout growing bags are suspended from sets of portable racks which are placed on circular tray structures. The tray structures are supported in spaced vertical relationship by an upright mast located within an enclosed housing and adapted to rotate about its longitudinal axis. The rack sets of each tray structure are arranged about the longitudinal axis of the mast to form circular tiers. Periodically, filtered and anti-bacterially treated irrigation water is supplied to each bag at a fast enough rate to thoroughly mix the seeds located therein. Water draining from the bags is collected in a storage tank and subsequently recycled after first being filtered and purified. Once the seeds have sprouted, artificial light is provided so that substantially all the sprouts in each bag receive a uniform amount of growing light.

摘要: A chamber for exposing animals, plants, or materials to air containing gases or aerosols is so constructed that catch pans for animal excrement, for example, serve to aid the uniform distribution of air throughout the chamber instead of constituting obstacles as has been the case in prior animal exposure chambers. The chamber comprises the usual imperforate top, bottom and side walls. Within the chamber, cages and their associated pans are arranged in two columns. The pans are spaced horizontally from the walls of the chamber in all directions. Corresponding pans of the two columns are also spaced horizontally from each other. Preferably the pans of one column are also spaced vertically from corresponding pans of the other column. Air is introduced into the top of the chamber and withdrawn from the bottom. The general flow of air is therefore vertical. The effect of the horizontal pans is based on the fact that a gas flowing past the edge of a flat plate that is perpendicular to the flow forms a wave on the upstream side of the plate. Air flows downwardly between the chamber walls and the outer edges of the pan. It also flows downwardly between the inner edges of the pans of the two columns. It has been found that when the air carries aerosol particles, these particles are substantially uniformly distributed throughout the chamber.
