    摘要: A valve plug assembly for use in a steam throttle valve includes a valve body and a removable guide ring attached to one end of the valve body. An outer edge portion is removed from the guide ring at the interface with the valve body so that a circumferential groove is defined about the valve plug when the guide ring is assembled to the valve body. A slot is formed in one wall of the groove, preferably in the guide ring, and a wear ring inserted in the slot. The wear ring extends above the wall surface and terminates in an angled bearing surface. A pressure seal ring is formed with a mating bearing surface and is placed in the groove prior to assembly of the valve plug. The angular taper on the mating bearing surfaces causes some retraction of the pressure seal ring in response to sudden valve plug movement in the closed direction.

    摘要: A sealing apparatus is disclosed for a device having variable volume chambers formed by the walls of a case and a piston. The device includes a piston assembly having an outer piston structure with an inner piston structure therein. The inner piston structure is mounted on an eccentric on a crank shaft, the rotation of which causes nutating movement of the inner piston structure and a reciprocal linear movement of the outer piston structure. First sealing elements are mounted on the outer piston structure to provide sealing for the chambers having the outer piston structure forming part of the chambers, and second sealing elements are mounted on the ported faces of the inner piston structure to provide sealing for the chambers having the inner piston structure forming part of the chambers. Each sealing element includes one portion received in grooves in the piston structures and another portion with a plurality of spaced raised sections which engage the case walls. Dams are provided in the first sealing element, O rings are also provided around the eccentric for sealing, and nutation guides are provided to assure nutating movement of the inner piston structure.

    摘要: Spring loaded seals comprised of two resting rings positioned in an annular groove of a piston that are pressed against the upper and lower shoulders of the groove by a corrugated spring fitted therebetween. Each resting ring has at least one free-floating sealing wedge, preferably made of ceramic material, which overlaps the outer peripheral edge thereof for sliding along the cylinder wall wherein the sealing wedges frictionally press against the cylinder wall during the stroke of the piston in one direction and release to more freely slide along the cylinder wall in the other direction. The resting rings and sealing wedges form dry seals, i.e. unlubricated sliding seals, for use in compressor devices which operate at either high or low temperatures.

Particularly, gray iron piston ring insert (14) having an austenitic matrix is treated in a piston body (12) by impinging a cryogenic medium thereon. This changes the matrix microstructure of the insert to at least about 25 Vol. % martensite and desirably increases the hardness level thereof to at least about 95 on the Rockwell "B" scale in the desired regions thereof. The volume of the insert is also expanded to be more securely received in the piston body.
