A double toric sealing ring for providing a seal between a casing and a butterfly member of a butterfly valve is formed with two helical springs each forming a torus and disposed concentrically. The helical spring forming the outer torus has a coil diameter greater than that of the coils of the spring forming the inner torus. Each spring is enclosed by a respective sheath. A metal annulus extending between the tori has its radially inner and outer peripheries bent around the respective sheathed tori. The radially extending portion of the annulus between these bent parts is formed with a bellows like groove concentric with the tori, to permit deformation of the sealing ring which in use is mounted in the butterfly valve so that the smaller diameter encased torus provides a seal between relatively stationary parts and the larger diameter encased torus provides a seal between the casing and the movable butterfly member when the latter is closed.

A flexible double toric sealing ring comprising two toric sealing ring structures 2, 3 which ensure, respectively, a static seal and a dynamic seal. A counter ring is mounted radially on the second sealing ring structure and floats with it to allow self centering of the arrangement with respect to the valve seat. A sealing membrane 8 presents an elastically deformable structure 12 interconnecting the two sealing ring structures 2 and 3 while partially covering them. The two sealing ring structures 2, 3 are mounted on opposite sides of the middle section 11 of membrane 8. This double toric sealing ring can be advantageously applied to a butterfly valve.

The valve of the present invention comprises a tubular body (1) the centralortion (6) of which defines a shutoff chamber (7) which is accessible via an inspection trap (15). Within this chamber (7) there is housed a removable annular pre-body (8) provided with two radial boreholes (9, 10) serving for the rotary mounting of the shaft (11) of the butterfly (12). Sealing means which cooperate with the body (1), the pre-body (8) and the butterfly (12) make it possible to assure the upstream/downstream tightness of the valve. The inspection trap (15) is closed by a cap (28) provided with a passage within which there is rotatably mounted a drive shaft (35) which is coupled to the shaft (11). This structure permits greater ease of access to the inner parts of the valve, a decrease in volume and weight, and greater ease in manufacture.

A butterfly valve of large diameter which comprises a body with a substantially cylindrical inner bore, internally lined with a ring that terminates at lateral flanks of the valve; a butterfly pivotally mounted in the body by means of valve spindles that pass through the body and the ring; wherein the body includes at least two annular grooves that are coaxial with respect to the bore; the ring being constructed with several aligned sections, such as two curvilinear sections and a plurality of rectilinear sections; wherein the ends of the sections are formed and vulcanized to shape after having been aligned; the ring further including, on its side adjacent the body, at least two annular tenons with heads that respectively engage the grooves, these tenons being smaller than the groove inlets; an empty space being provided between the tenons and the grooves, filled at the time of assembly with a plastic material that hardens by polymerization, for example an epoxy resin. Optionally, the body may have passages therein for the valve spindles, the ring may further include a flange, and screws may be provided at the ends of the passages for regulating the axial compression of the flange about the valve spindles.
