摘要： A slice lip apparatus is disclosed for guiding a flow of stock from a headbox so that the stock flows between a first and a second wire of a former. The apparatus includes a lip which is disposed adjacent to the first wire. A movable lip is spaced relative to the lip so that the lips defined therebetween a slice for the passage therethrough of the flow of stock. An adjustable guide shoe is disposed adjacent to the movable lip for guiding the second wire. A linkage extends between the movable lip and the adjustable guide shoe. The arrangement is such that when the movable lip is selectively moved relative to the lip, such selective movement generates a corresponding movement of the adjustable guide shoe relative to the first wire.

The apparatus includes a first vertical calender mounted on the frame wherein the web passes through a first nip formed by a first calender roll and a second calender roll. The apparatus also includes a horizontal calender configuration providing two nips. The horizontal, three-roll arrangement is mounted on the frame and has a center roll and a pair of rolls positioned on opposite sides of the center roll which, with the center roll, provide the second and third nips. The apparatus also includes a fourth nip provided by a second vertical calender mounted on the frame.

A rider roller in the assembly includes a plurality of rider roll wheels which are mounted to the beam and are individually pivotable so as to engage the wound roll along a nip line. A plurality of supporting arms are articulately linked with the beam for supporting and individually pivoting the rider roll wheels on a swiveling axis in relation to the beam. The individual rider roll wheels are individually loaded against the paper web roll. Double-acting piston/cylinder units are connected to the rider roll wheels for lifting or compensating the rider roll wheels.

摘要： A headbox is provided which provides an improved uniformity in the velocity profile of the stock solution across the slice opening. As a result, improved fiber alignment is provided across the width of the entire slice opening and mis-alignment of the fibers towards the outer edges of the slice opening is avoided. The headbox includes an improved nozzle design with pondsides that are not parallel to one another but which are angled inwardly as they extend from the tube bank to the slice opening. Further, several columns of outer tubes of the tube bank may also be angled inwardly as they extend from the header to the nozzle section. The center tubes would be disposed in a parallel relationship to one another. A sealing arrangement is provided between the roof of the nozzle section and the pondside which permits the incorporation of a double knuckle for extending and retracting the roof to adjust the L/b ratio. In an alternative embodiment, the roof includes a rectangular extraction which is retracted and extended by a double knuckle and which needs no special sealing arrangement between the extension and the pondsides.

摘要： A dryer section in a papermaking machine has two reversing rolls to form a pocket between each pair of dryers in a dryer tier. The first reversing roll is a vacuum roll and the second reversing roll is a grooved roll. A blow box is disposed between the two rolls, the blow box provides suction for the grooved roll and provides vacuum which restrains a web on the dryer fabric as it travels between the first and the second rolls. The blow box also provides a supply of make-up air which extends in a cross machine direction along the pocket formed by the two reversing rolls. The blow box also supports a pivoting foil which is positioned against the dryer fabric as it moves from a first dryer, towards the first reversing roll. The foil defines a region of low pressure which restrains the web as it travels between the first dryer and the first reversing roll.

摘要： A loose joint assembly for linking two segments of a shaft which are substantially aligned at either end of the joint assembly co-axially about a axis of rotation. The joint assembly includes a male coupling member disposed co-axially within a female coupling member with an intermediate bearing member to align the coupling members. The male coupling member has a plurality of circumferentially spaced flats located within the space enclosed by the female coupling member. A corresponding plurality of openings, preferably in the form of slots extending in the circumferential direction, are located in the female coupling member, each slot being aligned with a corresponding flat. A drive pin is attached to the male coupling member at each flat and extends radially from the flat and at least partially into the corresponding slot in the female coupling member. The dimension of each opening in the direction of the longitudinal axis is selected to be only slightly larger than the dimension of the portion of the drive pin extending through the opening. The dimension of the slot in the circumferential direction is selected to be longer than the diameter of the drive pin extending into the opening. This configuration permits a limited amount of relative angular rotation between the male and female coupling members for limiting angular misalignment between the shaft segments while also permitting the shaft segments to lock in movement together at the extreme of relative angular movement between the shaft segments in either direction. Removing the pins, or disengaging them from the openings, permits the joint assembly to collapse axially.

摘要： A rectangular clarifying tank has an inclined beach formed of sheet metal and having 575 holes per square inch, each hole having a diameter of 20 thousandths of an inch. Two side chain drives advance several scrapers along the beach. Each scraper has a rotatable knurled pipe which turns the sludge and aids dewatering through the beach. The sludge removed from the clarifier has a solids content of between eight and twelve percent. Additional dewatering may be accomplished by applying a vacuum to the last one-quarter of the beach. A tray positioned beneath the beach collects water which drains through the beach. The drain water may be returned to the clarifier tank or may be directly treated as clarified water.

摘要： A winding machine for winding up webs, possibly longitudinally divided webs, and preferably paper webs. The winding machine comprises two support rollers which support, in a winding bed, the roll to be produced. During the winding process, the web running through the spacer gap between the two support rollers partially wraps around one of the two support rollers. The winding machine further comprises a space delimited by the two support rollers, the partly formed roll, and this space has sealed closures on its ends and a sealed closure below the spacer gap between the two support rollers. Finally, the winding machine generates excess pressure in this space in order to balance the inherent weight of the roll. The sealed closure below the spacer gap comprises a pivotable side wall which extends substantially over the entire maximum web width of the roll to be produced and whose pivot axis extends approximately parallel to the support rollers axes. The side wall can be pivoted sealingly towards the support roller, around which the web is wrapped, while leaving free a web passage gap for the winding process. The side wall can be moved, in particular pivoted, away from the support roller, around which the web is wrapped, for the introduction of the web.
