    摘要: The airblast fuel injector capable of accommodating high fuel temperature at the injector tip without deleterious fuel vaporization problems and resultant combustion instability in a gas turbine engine includes an annular spring valve mounted on an annular shoulder of an inner injector body forming an inner air chamber with the valve having a cantilever valve head for controlling fuel flow from a fuel swirling orifice in the shoulder near the injector tip. The spring bias of the cantilever valve head is adjusted by lapping the valve head prior to fastening the spring valve to the inner injector body and before the inner injector body is assembled within an outer injector body having means forming an outer annual fuel chamber and air chamber. The method involves valving the fuel flow in the injector tip near to the fuel discharge orifice in a valve closed manner below a selected minimum fuel pressure and in a valve metering manner above the selected fuel pressure with valving located sufficiently upstream therefrom that the airblast operational characteristics of the injector are not adversely affected.

    摘要: Apparatus for reducing the waste neck area in a mold of vinyl cast articles such as automotive arm rests, head rests and parts of similar construction includes a powder box of gellable material having a supply spout with its exposed outer surface area covered by a liner of heat insulating material; a waste inlet neck on a heated, machined nickel mold is sealed by the liner when the powder box is joined to the mold. The powder box spout is at room temperature and shields the inlet neck to prevent gel build-up on the inlet neck to effect considerable cost by both a reduction in waste deposits of gel and a reduction in labor required to trim a waste area on the mold. To obtain the coating, the mold is coated with powdered vinyl (hereinafter gellable material) by casting from the powder box to the mold and the excess material is removed from the mold by dumping it from the mold into the powder box.

    摘要: A machine tool, such as an internal grinding machine, includes a tool quill with a hollow tool having a deformable hub releasably held thereon and a compound slide for moving the tool quill relative to a tool removal arm and a replacement tool storage chute. The tool removal arm includes a tool enter station and tool strip station and is rotatable between the workpart axis and a tool discharge chute. For removal of a worn tool, the arm is rotated to position the tool enter station for insertion of a worn wheel thereon by slide movement toward the arm and then rotated to capture the worn wheel at the tool strip station. The slide is then retracted away from the arm to pull the quill out of the hollow tool, leaving the captured tool on the arm. The arm is rotated to carry the worn tool to the discharge chute for disposal while the slide positions the quill at the tool storage chute. Then, the slide is actuated to insert the quill into the deformable hub or sleeve of a replacement hollow tool in the chute and thereby releasably secure the hollow tool on the quill. The quill with the replacement tool thereon is withdrawn from the chute for machining of workparts.

The shroud and electrolyte chamber are in sealed relation when the portion of rotor is inserted for machining, and the shroud and electrolyte chamber include cooperative locating features to precisely position the rotor portion at the workpart machining position in the chamber. The shroud remains on the arbor during incremental indexing of the latter and is itself retained against substantial indexing movement while the rotor is indexed.

    摘要: The fluid valve assembly includes a hollow movable valve having an open-ended tubular fluid filter in the longitudinal bore of the valve and overlying transverse fluid discharge passages in the hollow valve to filter fluid before it flows through the transverse discharge passages from inside the valve. Downstream of the tubular fluid filter, the hollow valve includes one or more fluid metering passages which are moved relative to a valve seat to control a second flow of fluid from inside the valve. The increased fluid flow longitudinally in the valve bore when the valve is moved from the seat to effect the second fluid flow exerts a washing action on the tubular fuel filter to remove debris or foreign matter therefrom and carry same out through relatively large fluid passages not prone to clogging.

    摘要: The machining apparatus includes a machine tool having a primary spindle slide with a transversely extending tool head support rail member thereon which is aligned successively with a tool head load rail mechanism and unload rail mechanism on a side of the machine tool by movement of the primary spindle slide to load or unload a multi-spindle tool head. When the tool head is loaded in operative position on the rail member, the spindles of the tool head are driven by the primary spindle through a gear train in the tool head. An overhead gantry robot conveys tool heads between the load and unlaod rail mechanisms and a stationary tool head storage unit on the side of the machine tool.A single shank tool conveyor assembly is disposed on the other side of the machine tool and a pivotal tool changer is located on that side to exchange single shank tools between the primary spindle itself and a tool chain conveyor on the tool conveyor assembly when the machine tool is not in operation using a single or multi-spindle tool head.The machine tool, load and unload mechanisms, overhead robot, pivotal tool changer and tool conveyor assembly are controlled by a common programmable computer. The machine tool can be operated in the single shank tool mode or single or multi-spindle tool head mode automatically without manual change-over or modification thereof.

A pivotal tool quill exchange arm includes first and second tool quill stations for releasably retaining a worn or used tool quill and replacement tool quill, respectively, and is pivotal to first and second tool quill exchange positions. At the first tool quill exchange position relative to the tool quill storage magazine and discharge means, a worn or used tool quill is removed from the first tool quill station by the pick-off means and falls into a discharge chute and generally concurrently the second tool quill station removes a new tool quill from the pick-up position and releasably grips same. At the second tool quill exchanger position relative to the toolhead of the machine, the tool quill exchange arm and toolhead are moved relative to one another to align the vacant first tool quill station and replacement tool quill in the second tool quill station of the tool exchange arm with the spindle to remove a worn or used tool quill therefrom and insert a replacement tool quill therein.

    摘要: During grinding of successive workparts with a superabrasive wheel in a rough grind stage at a high wheel infeed rate and a finish grind stage at a relatively low infeed rate with spark-out stages after each of the rough and finish grind stages, the duration of the spark-out stage after rough grinding is made dependent on the condition of the grinding wheel and corresponds to the time needed for removing workpart material for the reduction of the grinding wheel motor power from the high rough grind level to the lower finish grind level. The duration of the spark-out stage will therefore be variable from one workpart to the next as the condition of the wheel changes. In addition, the interval of wheel retruing or dressing (i.e. number of workparts ground between wheel retruing) is variable as determined by the condition of the wheel. In particular, when the rough spark-out stage for a workpart is completed in a time shorter than a preselected minimum time indicative of a wheel that is in need of retruing. Typically, the occurrence of a drop in wheel motor power from the rough to the finish level during the preselected time interval is sensed and activates a memory circuit to store the fact that the machine needs to be placed in the wheel truing mode.
