摘要： Apparatus for pressing nailing plates or the like into opposite ends of elongate members, such as wooden railroad ties, thereby to end-plate the ties. The apparatus comprises a press having upper and lower platens engageable with the top and bottom faces of a tie adjacent the ends thereof. The lower platens are movable through an upstroke for raising the tie while generally horizontal from a lowered position to an elevated position and for pressing the tie against the upper platens thereby to apply a vertical compressing force to the tie adjacent the ends thereof, and a downstroke for lowering the tie. Side platens are engageable with opposite side faces of the tie adjacent the ends thereof when the tie is in its elevated position. The side platens are movable toward and away from one another whereby a horizontal compressing force can be applied to and removed from the opposite side faces of the tie adjacent the ends thereof. A pair of end platens are engageable with nailing plates on opposite ends of the tie for pressing the nailing plates into the ends of the tie when the tie is elevated and while it is being compressed by the upper, lower and side platens.

摘要： Apparatus for positioning and holding on an elongate bed pieces of a floor truss of the type comprising a pair of generally parallel spaced-apart wood chord members and a series of relatively flat metal web members having connector portions with teeth struck therefrom to be pressed into the wood chord members for rigidly interconnecting them. The apparatus comprises an abutment having a first vertical clamping surface extending longitudinally with respect to the bed for engagement by one chord member, and a clamping mechanism for moving the web and chord members relative to one another from an initial unassembled position in which the web members are generally horizontal with the teeth facing upwardly and in which the wood chord members overlie the web members, to a final position in which the one chord member abuts the aforesaid clamping surface of the abutment and the connector portions of the web members are substantially centered on the lower faces of the chord members transversely with respect to the faces. The clamping mechanism also clamps the web and chord members in their final position.

摘要： Apparatus for pressing nailing plates or the like into opposite ends of elongate members, such as railroad ties, thereby to end-plate the ties. The apparatus comprises a press and apparatus for conveying the ties forwardly one after another in generally horizontal position with the ties extending transversely with respect to the direction of conveyance to a first station, and for feeding the ties one at a time from the first station to a second station where each tie is end-plated. The conveying apparatus, which comprises a series of walking beam units, is also operable to discharge a tie from the second station after it has been end-plated.

摘要： A relatively flat sheet metal structural web member for interconnecting a pair of generally parallel spaced-apart chord members to form a floor truss or the like. The web member is generally V-shaped, comprising first and second legs integrally joined at one of their respective ends, and a plurality of teeth struck from opposite ends of the legs for being driven into the chord members. The side margins of each leg are bent to form inner and outer flanges extending longitudinally of the leg at opposite sides of the leg. The outer flange has opposite end portions, one of which terminates in an edge formed for abutting along substantially its entire length against one of the chord members. The inner flange also has opposite end portions, one of which terminates in an edge formed for abutting along substantially its entire length against the other chord member.

摘要： A truss-fabricating machine comprising a table for supporting a pair of parallel spaced-apart wood chord members, a series of web members spanning the chord members, and connectors having teeth adapted to be pressed into the wood chord members. The machine further comprises apparatus on the top of the table for clamping the chord members in fixed position with respect to the table, including a pair of outside jaws engageable with the outside faces of the chord members, and expansible tubing extending longitudinally of the table for effecting movement of the outside jaws relative to one another transversely of the table to clamp the chord members in fixed position with respect to the table. A press is movable longitudinally with respect to the table for pressing the teeth of the connectors into the chord members when the chord members are clamped in fixed position.
