摘要: A radiation treatment apparatus is provided which has an extendable imaging device. The radiation treatment apparatus comprises a stand which supports a gantry in a rotable manner. The gantry has a treatment head for emitting a radiation beam towards an object. The extendable imaging device is coupled to the gantry opposite to the treatment head in the trajectory of the radiation beam at a point past the object. The imaging device includes an holding means which is extendable from the gantry one end of which is arranged at the gantry and at the other end of which a detector head is coupled. The detector head comprises an image converting means which in its operating position is essentially perpendicular to the radiation beam and which converts an image represented by the radiation beam into a visible image. It also comprises a reflector coupled with the image converting means for reflecting the visible image into a light channel formed by the holding means and to a video camera. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the image converting means is collapsible and the reflector is formed as a mirror and is foldable towards the image converting means.

摘要: The generation of excessive electron radiation or X-ray radiation is prevented in an apparatus which comprises an accelerator means for generating and accelerating electrons. These electrons form an electron beam which has a predetermined low intensity level for the generation of electron radiation or a predetermined high intensity level for the generation of X-ray radiation. In case of generating electron radiation a scattering foil or a target, respectively are arranged in the trajectory of the electron beam. The foil and the target are movably arranged on a support means. Detecting means operable by this support means sense the position of the foil and the target relative to the trajectory of said electron beam and inhibiting means prevent the generation of an electron beam having an intensity level which exceeds the predetermined low intensity level if the target is not positioned and/or which exceeds the predetermined high intensity level if the target is positioned in the trajectory of the electron beam.

摘要: An apparatus for generating and transporting a charged particle beam. The apparatus has a source which generates the charged particle beam at two current levels, and a magnet system for bending the beam. Particles of different energies are bent along different paths, whereby at a specific height within the magnet system the radial displacement from the beam axis is a monotone function of the difference between the energy and the nominal energy. At this height there is provided an energy selection filter having at least one bimetallic element. This element projects into the beam and, thus, intercepts beam particles; it is designed such that its interception distance decreases with increasing beam current. As a result, the energy range of particles passing the filter is broader at the higher current level broader than at the lower current level.

摘要: The chamber contains a first and a second measuring electrode and a third electrode. The first measuring electrode is essentially a first flat ring portion. The second measuring electrode comprises an inner circular area to the periphery of which a second flat ring portion adjoins in an electrically conducting manner. The first and the second measuring electrodes are arranged in a first plane. The first and the second ring portion are combined approximately 360.degree.. The third electrode is arranged in a second plane parallel to and spaced from the first plane. When ionizing radiation (X-rays, electrons) enters the space between the first and second measuring electrodes on the one side and the third electrode on the other side, electrical signals will be derived from said respective first and second electrode.

摘要: The electron exit window assembly contains a metal cover plate, a titanium insert piece and a titanium exit window. The cover plate covers the interior of the last cavity of the accelerator. It contains an insert opening into which is inserted the insert piece in a vacuum tight manner. The insert piece in turn contains a hole which is covered by the exit window. The cover plate preferably is made of stainless steel, and the insert piece is preferably brazed into the insert opening of the cover plate.

摘要: The electron applicator incorporates a stationary support tube and an insert tube. The support tube and the insert tube each have a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion of the insert tube slideably extends into the second end portion of the support tube. Electrons of high energy are transmitted through the assembly of both tubes. The surface of the insert tube is tapered inwardly toward the end thereof in the travelling direction of the high energy electrons. A device is provided for preventing the insert tube from sliding out of the support tube. A first engaging device engages the insert tube in a first working position. This device is such that upon a predetermined axial force which may inadvertently be exercised by a patient under treatment, the insert tube will slide into the support tube.An adapter for small field or cavetory treatment may be connected to the output end of the insert tube. To compensate for the additional length of the tube assembly associated with such an adapter, the insert tube is moved into the support tube by a distance equal to the effective length increase and held in this second position by a second engaging device which can be similar to the first engaging device.

摘要: The invention relates to an electron accelerator including an evacuated acceleration tube, a target exposed to the electron beam, an electron absorber following the target in beam direction, a collimator and a compensation body arranged therein centered on the axis of symmetry thereof. In such electron accelerators, used in radiotherapy, the soft radiation component is to be suppressed as much as possible. To this end the invention provides a filter plate made of heavy metal beyond the electron absorber, while the compensation body is made of a material of comparatively low atomic number. The filter plate may be inserted between the electron absorber and the compensation body. The target may be provided on the side of the electron absorber facing the acceleration tube.

摘要: A method for applying a radiation treatment with an arbitrary isodose profile is disclosed. The treatment apparatus has a radiation source which generates a radiation beam with an axis. The apparatus also includes a collimator having a plurality of independently movable plates disposed in the path of the radiation beam and oriented in a direction perpendicular to said beam axis. Each set has two movable plates. Control signals are generated. Two plates within a set of plates are actuated independently in orthogonal directions during the treatment, in response to the control signals, causing the beam to change in width. The intensity of the beam is changed as a function of the position of the plates to generate an arbitrary beam profile. Exemplary profiles which may be generated included rotationally symmetric parabolic profiles and flat profiles.

摘要: In a radiation emitting device, particularly in a radiation therapy device, isodose curves are adjusted both by a moveable plate that is controlled during irradiation and by varying the dose rate of the radiation beam during irradiation. By superimposing the effects of moving the plate and varying the dose rate of the radiation beam, it is possible to vary the isodose curve in the object of irradiation, so that a wide range of variation in the possible isodose curves is obtained. If the plate is moved at a constant speed, e.g. various wedge-shaped isodose curves can be easily achieved.
