RESIDUAL UNPOLYMERIZED ACIDS, PRINCIPALLY UNMODIFIED OCTADECENOIC ACIDS, ARE SEPARATED FROM THE REACTION PRODUCT AND MAY BE DIMERIZED IN A SECOND STAGE BY HEATING AT 220*C.260*C. FOR ABOUT 2-5 HOURS IN THE PRESENCE OF A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER AND OF AN ACID-ACTIVATED MINERAL CLAY, WHICH IS PREFERABLY A MONTMORILLONITE CLAY.
