A watthour meter socket adapter has a housing formed of a base and unitary annular sidewall projecting from the base. Jaw blades are mounted in apertures in the base. In one embodiment, a spring clip is movably disposable in an aperture formed in each jaw blade to define a meter blade terminal receiving slot therebetween. In another embodiment, the spring clip is fixed to the jaw blade by a single mechanical fastener. Complimentary locator members are formed on the jaw portion and the spring clip for non-movably locating the spring clip relative to the jaw blade. A tab projects from the jaw blade for non-movably fixing the jaw blade relative to the base of the socket adapter. Flanges formed on the base fixedly engage the tab. The jaw blade may be formed of a single unitary jaw contact and blade terminal or a discrete jaw member and blade member. U-shaped support members are formed on the base for engaging opposite side edges of the blade members for non-movably fixing the blade terminal relative to the base. Projections are disposed in the base aperture and engagable with the blade members for non-movably supporting the blade member relative to the base. A unitary jaw blade and spring clip is formed of first and second arms unitarily projecting from opposite sides of the jaw portion and having outer end spaced from the jaw portion to define a blade terminal receiving slot with the jaw blade.

Apertures in the front housing 314 allow insertion of a tool into engagement with a fastener 112 carried on each terminal 290, 10 for fixedly joining a terminal clip 116 mounted a conductor 132 extending from the jaw contacts to an external conductor 138 inserted through openings in the bottom of the front and rear housings. The potential jaw contacts 10 are in the form of three linearly spaced fingers 12, 14, 20, with two of the fingers 12, 14 being spaced apart by an intermediate third finger 20, and projecting to one side of the jaw contact, opposite from the outer end of the intermediate, third finger to define a slot for receiving a potential meter blade terminal. A flange 30 and a tab 42 are formed on each potential jaw contact 10 for attaching a plurality of external conductors 44, 41 to each potential jaw contact 10. Another set of apertures formed in the front housing 314 allow access of at least a pair of electrically connected shorting pins 164 coupled to two terminal clips 116 and aligned with the apertures to electrically connect a pair of electrical conductors, jaw contacts and terminals in the housing.

An electrical power disconnect device is mounted in one of the shells, and is connected in series by conductors between the line jaw contacts in both shells. The power disconnect device includes a movable external member having an end portion which slidably extends through the side wall of one of the shells. In one embodiment, the end portion is a separate rod which is biased into contact with the movable member. Electrical power disconnect indicia are formed on the movable external member or the rod and are visible externally of the one shell when the external member is in an extended position to indicate that the power disconnect device is in a non-power conducting state. A lock is optionally insertable through an aperture in the end portion of the external member or the rod to prevent the external member from switching the power disconnect device to a power conducting state.
