    摘要: A breakaway coupling including a pair of sleeves, one sleeve fitting within the other, each sleeve provided with a connector body, and a hose connector secured partially with one of the connector bodies. The first sleeve holds a metal annulus, while the second sleeve secures a ring separator, generally counterbored, to secure a series of round magnets, so that when the sleeves and their connector bodies are brought together, they are secured by the magnets into connection, but that when an excessive force is encountered, the breakaway will separate, and prevent further discharge of fuel from the nozzle or its fuel line hose. Connecting with one of the connector bodies is a swivel connector, which can furnish a degree of pivot to the swivel, and its connected nozzle, or the hose, during usage. The swivel connector includes male and female portions, which provide for a degree of pivot, while the male portion further includes a swivel nut, which adds further turnability to the entire unit, during installation.

    摘要: A carbon canister with a valve activated by the weight of nearly saturated or saturated carbon communicates with piping from an underground tank. The invention includes carbon within a casing inside a canister, a weight actuated valve, and piping in communication with the atmosphere. When an ORVR vehicle refuels, the pressure lowers in the tank that draws air into the canister. After refueling, the tank remains subject to conditions that generate hydrocarbon vapors. Those vapors then return to the canister and adhere to the surface of the carbon. The carbon, heavier with hydrocarbons, lowers the canister and closes the weight actuated valve. Closing the valve returns pressure control to an external pressure vacuum relief valve. The next refueling draws in atmospheric air to purge the hydrocarbons in the canister and thus lighten it. A secondary purge valve also removes hydrocarbons from the canister. Once the carbon lightens, the inlet valve opens and the vapors return to the canister for adsorption. This cycle regenerates the carbon.

    摘要: A fuel dispensing nozzle (10) has a body (12) including a fuel passage for fuel to flow from a source thereof through the body. A spout (18) is attached to the body in fluid communication therewith for fuel to flow into the spout from the passage. The distal end of the spout forms a mouth (19) insertable into the tank. A vapor return path is provided for capturing fuel vapors and returning them to the source, so to substantially reduce or eliminate emissions. A vacuum is produced in a variable venturi portion (42) of the nozzle and is applied to the return path to extract any fuel collecting therein. This vacuum is in addition to another vacuum produced at the venturi and used to assist in automatically shutting-off fuel flow when the tank is full. This device is a power generating source that is not limited to only fuel extraction and nozzle shut off. It can also be used for other apparent uses, having the multiple usage applied in conjunction with the vapor recovery systems in the category of the balanced pressure system and the vacuum assist system.

    摘要: A pressure actuated poppet valve for a fuel dispensing nozzle is disclosed having a piston therein movable between a first and a second position. In the first position, the piston holds a plurality of coupling or latching balls in coupling engagement with an axially movable stem so that upon a user pulling the actuator handle or lever of the dispensing nozzle, the poppet valve is opened for the dispensing of fuel. When the dispenser goes off such that there is no fuel pressure in the hose upstream from the nozzle, a spring within the poppet valve pushes the piston from its first to its second position, thus permitting the coupling balls to move clear of the stem, allowing the poppet valve to close, and preventing opening of the poppet valve upon the subsequent actuating of the nozzle handle. The poppet valve has a flow restriction port which permits fuel to flow in and out of the poppet valve such that a predetermined time delay will result between the time the fuel dispenser is de-energized and the time the dispensing nozzle becomes inoperable. Upon energization of the dispenser, the fuel pressure will cause the piston to move to its first position, thus again enabling actuation of the fuel dispensing nozzle.
