摘要: A co-extruded, dual-texture animal food is provided. The food has a dry outer portion partially surrounding a semi-moist inner portion. The inner portion has a higher or similar moisture content and a softer texture compared to the outer portion which has a lower moisture content and harder texture. The outer portion comprises cereal grain and a legume at about 75-85% of the weight of the outer portion, and an animal-based protein contributing to about 5-10% of the weight or more of the outer portion. The inner portion has animal-derived grease mixed with lactic acid at about 3% by weight of the inner portion, along with at least one meat comprising at least 3% by weight of the inner portion. The composition inhibits moisture transference within and between individual pieces of the food. The food is shelf stable and the inner and outer portions retain their hardness and moisture profiles, post-packaging.

摘要: Edible casein-based flexible filaments with high tensile strength are disclosed. Filaments are formed by extruding compositions comprising about 30 to 60 wt. % milk proteins and about 40 to 65 wt. % of plasticizer. Casein sources include MPC, CaC, or NaC. Plasticizers include water, glycerol, lactose and mixtures thereof. Ingredients to improve material properties may be used to form flexible filaments with higher tensile strength. Ingredients include gelatin or soy protein isolates (about 0.75-5 wt. %), xanthan gum (about 0.1-0.35 wt. %), and cellulose (about 0.5-4.95 wt. %). Filaments may be crosslinked by multivalent ions such as calcium to form networks to strengthen the filaments. Filaments of high tensile strength are provided with diameters ranging from about 80 to 2,000 microns. Filaments can be used as single filaments, strands of multiple filaments, or combinations of threads or braids, or shaped into configurations such as weaves, sheets, tubes, and rods.

摘要: Pet owners cannot tactilely examine, or experience food contained in rigid packaging. This product experience at the point of purchase requires pliable or flexible packaging. However, pliable or flexible packaging has limited ability to stack, both on the store shelf, as well as in the pet owner's pantry. Provided is a multi-functional container for moist or wet, textured food. The container has rigid sidewalls, a bottom with at least a portion made from a flexible or pliable material or membrane or that provides access to a bag of a flexible or pliable material or membrane, and a lid to seal the opening of the container or the bag. Since the food contacts the flexible or pliable material or membrane, it can be tactilely examined at the point of purchase. If the material or membrane is transparent, the food can also be visibly examined at the point of purchase.

摘要: Pet owners are frustrated with conventional wet pet food packages as it is difficult to remove product from these packages. Traditional metal or plastic containers and flexible pouches are not designed to fully eject product in one step. Rather, the consumer must perform additional steps such as scooping, scraping, tearing, or twisting to entirely remove product. Provided is a collapsible package for wet pet foods. The collapsible package has tapered flexible sidewall, a rigid ring and/or circumferential peripheral flange attached to a top of the sidewall, and a rigid base attached to a bottom of the sidewall. The flexible sidewall is configured to be compressible between an expanded position, at which point product is held in the container, and a collapsed position, at which point product is effectively ejected from the container. A lid can also be attached to the ring and/or circumferential peripheral flange to seal the container.

摘要: A carrier and related methods of use are provided for packaging irregular-shaped products. The carrier has a footing and a vertical support member partially enclosing at least one irregular-shaped product. The vertical support member has: (1) a pair of sidewalls facing one another and having lower tabs joined to opposite ends of the footing, and (2) a rear wall with edges along the junctures with the sidewalls and a lower edge along the juncture with the footing. A wrap encloses the irregular-shaped product(s) and the carrier. The method includes uniformly aligning the irregular-shaped product(s) in the carrier and securing the carrier and product(s) by enclosing them with a wrap.
