With the hybrid capacitor, characteristics of an LIC and characteristics of an EDLC are implemented in a single cell, thereby making it possible to increase energy density and improve output characteristics.

The energy storage device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: a valve body provided with a vent guide for communicating a gas vent of the energy storage device with the outside; and an elastic body interposed between the valve body and the gas vent to elastically support the valve body to an inner side of the gas vent to move the valve body to an outer side of the gas vent when a gas pressure in the gas vent rises, thereby communicating the vent guide with the outside and recover the valve body when the gas pressure in the gas vent falls, thereby blocking the vent guide from the outside.

Exemplary embodiments manufacture the electrodes having the gradient of the specific surface area value to the electricity conductivity along the thickness direction of the current collector by forming the electrode active material layer having compositions in which a kind of electrode active materials and conductive materials are different along the thickness direction of the current collector. The exemplary embodiments can increase the capacitance of the electrochemical capacitor including the electrode and lower the electric resistance thereof, by appropriately controlling the resistance and capacitance value of the electrode.

The binder composition includes galactomannan as a major component and may exhibit sufficient binding force with a considerably small amount, as compared to binders in the related art. When the binder composition disclosed herein is used to manufacture an energy storage device having the same weight as that manufactured using the binder in the related art, the energy storage device may contain a greater amount of active material, compared to the binder in the related art. Consequently, beneficial effects such as improvement in an energy density as well as eco-friendly characteristics may be rendered.
