摘要: The present disclosure provides short-term optical recovery systems and methods in coherent optical receivers to minimize recovery time for fault scenarios and signal reacquisition while maintaining robust signal acquisition. The short-term optical recovery systems and methods include special techniques and algorithms to minimize recovery time. The short-term optical recovery systems and methods include an expedited acquisition engine that includes a reference clock recovery, a compensator to remove chromatic dispersion, a burst framer, and a compensator to remove polarization dispersion. Importantly, the expedited acquisition engine uses a memory-oriented architecture to allow some properties of the acquisition engine to be stored during initial acquisition and, hence, later on be deployed in any fault scenario to further expedite recovery of a signal. The expedited acquisition engine leverages on a frequency aligned Local Oscillator (LO) as well as pre-calculated dispersion maps and equalizer coefficients.

摘要: A tuning system for use in a receiver of an optical transmission system. The receiver includes a data channel transporting a data signal and a monitoring channel transporting a copy of the data signal. The tuning system includes a processing module for processing the copy of the data signal to generate a control signal conveying tuning information. This tuning information is used by the receiver to alter an operating point of the receiver on the data channel. The operating point of the receiver that is susceptible to be altered by the control signal is a decision threshold applied on the data signal to discriminate one binary value from another binary value on the data channel of the receiver. This approach allows, when required or desired, tuning of the system while the system is in service. This is possible since the tuning of the system is performed using the monitoring channel, and does not disturb nor corrupt the actual data being transported on the data channel.

摘要: A method of allocating bandwidth for transmitting upstream cells from a CPE unit to a BTS. The CPE determines arrival time information associated with each cell and sends arrival time information associated with at least one cell to the BTS. The BTS allocates future bandwidth to the CPE as a function of the arrival time information received from the CPE. For example, the BTS estimates the number of cell arrivals occurring in the current scheduling period based on past cell arrival times. The BTS then sends information to the CPE in which the allocated future bandwidth is specified. Finally, the CPE groups a number of cells into a burst packet occupying the allocated bandwidth and sends the burst packet to the BTS. Rather than respond in a delayed manner to a bandwidth deficiency or surplus at an individual CPE unit, the BTS produces an estimate of a CPE unit's bandwidth demands, resulting in more efficient bandwidth utilization and reduced cell loss ratio.
