An air stream conveys the fibers from blender (A) to chute feed (C) across cleaning rollers (34, 36) of cleaner (B) without a nip feed providing increased cleaning efficiency. Control system (60) continues operation of top feed roll (52) after termination of carding machine (14) and discharge of fiber batt (12) from the chute feed to purge excess fibers in the air stream. In this manner, accumulation of the excess fibers in a fiber column (F) above top feed roll is prevented which would block air exit (50) and choke down top feed roll (52) upon resumption of the carding machine or fiber batt discharge.

The present invention relates to a device, such as a carding machine, for processing fibers, said device comprising a cylinder, which is provided with a lining, and at least two carding segments which are arranged one after the other in the direction of rotation at least over an area of the circumference of said cylinder, each of said carding segments being provided with a toothed lining. The present invention aims at improving the efficiency of such a device especially in terms of fiber parallelization. In order to achieve this, the toothed linings of the carding segments are designed differently; when the fibers are engaged by the toothed lining of the carding segment constituting the upstream carding segment in the direction of rotation, the resultant influence on an individual fiber entrained by the circumference of the cylinder will be equal to or more intensive than the influence exerted when the fibers are engaged by the toothed lining of a carding segment constituting a downstream carding segment in the direction of rotation.

The present invention relates to an all-steel card clothing for rollers and/or cylinders of carding machines. Carding machines comprise rollers which are configured to actively take over raw fiber materials from rollers arranged upstream in work direction. Therefore, such card clothings have a relatively large front angle. The problem is that the stability of the card clothings suffers. According to the invention, the teeth have a head angle of >85° in order to solve this problem. The length of the head surface extending at said angle from the tooth tip to the tooth back corresponds to at least ¼ of the length of the tooth pitch. This achieves a considerably more stable card clothing while maintaining the high carding quality.

The invention refers to a card engine or card machine comprising a measuring device for detecting the forces prevailing between the revolving cover and the drum. The device shall be improved in such a manner that the quality of the treated fibres can be influenced in an economical and efficient manner. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that the measuring device comprises a sensor for detecting the power consumption of the drive of the revolving cover. The sensor is arranged on the drive of the revolving cover or acts thereas, thereby facilitating the use of commercially available elements, which in turn is more economical.
