Abstract:
This invention is generally directed to toner compositions, and developer compositions containing same, the toner compositions being comprised of resin particles, and pigment particles, wherein one of the pigments is comprised of an alkaline earth salt of 4-amino-2-chlorotoluene-5-sulfonic acid coupled to 3-hydroxy-2-naphthalene carboxylic acid of the formula ##STR1## which compositions are useful in electrostatographic color imaging systems. In the above formula, X is the cation calcium, barium or strontium.
Abstract:
Disclosed are positive toners comprised of a toner resin, pigment or colorant, and as a charge inducing material, long chain hydrazinium compounds of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrocarbon radical containing from about 8 to about 22 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from hydrogen groups or hydrocarbon radicals containing from about 1 to about 22 carbon atoms and A is an anion which in a preferred embodiment is selected from halides such as chloride, bromide, iodide, sulfate, sulphonate, phosphate, and nitrate. These toners, together with carrier materials can be used to develop images in electrophotographic systems.
Abstract:
Magnetic toners, methods of their formation and utilization of the toners in various electrophotographic imaging systems is disclosed. The toners disclosed contain a nitrogen containing compound including, for example, amines and quaternary ammonium compounds. Toners containing such compounds are suitable for use in inductive development from a biased magnetic toner brush to an electrostatic image, and further subsequently such images may be transferred preferably by electrostatically type methods to a substrate such as plain bond paper.

Disclosed are positive toners comprised of a toner resin, a colorant, or pigment, and an alkyl picolinium compound selected from the group consisting of those represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein A is an anion which in a preferred embodiment is a halide such as chloride, bromide, or iodide, sulphate, sulphonate, phosphate and nitrate, and R is a hydrocarbon radical containing from 8 to 22 carbon atoms and preferably from about 12 to 18 carbon atoms. These toners when combined with carrier materials can be used as developers in electrophotographic systems.
Abstract:
An electrostatographic developer mixture comprising finely-divided positively charging toner particles electrostatically clinging to negatively charging carrier particles. The toner particles comprise a resin, a colorant, and a charge inducing material selected from (1) a long chain hydrazinium compound and (2) an alkyl pyridinium compound. The carrier particles comprise core particles having a coating of fused thermoplastic resin particles wherein the carrier particles are prepared by dry-mixing the core particles with thermoplastic resin particles until the resin particles adhere to the core particles. The mixture of core and resin particles are heated to between 320.degree. F. and 650.degree. F. for between 20 and 120 minutes so that the resin particles melt and fuse to the core particles. The developer mixture is employed to develop electrostatic latent images.

Abstract:
A method of toner formation wherein a dispersion of magnetic pigment, resin, solvent and surfactant is spray dried to form the toner particles. Two preferred processes are disclosed: (1) A dispersion of magnetite, resin, fatty acid, and solvent is prepared by high speed agitation. The dispersion is then spray dried to form toner particles. (2) A dispersion of magnetite, fatty acid and solvent is subject to reflux heating, followed by addition of resin solution prior to spray drying to form toner particles.
