    摘要: A wireless communication system (20) includes a base station controller (22) that receives timing information from a data set (26) that is generated by a neural network (28). The data set (26) allows for generating timing information based upon previous time information received from a GPS (24) and in one example, is capable of covering a time interval of up to two weeks during which effective communication with the GPS may be interrupted. In one example, the data set is continuously updated so that the base station controller (24) continuously has up to two weeks of future time information available.

    摘要: A wireless communication device includes more than one radio. A lossless switching module allows for selectively using one of the radios in a standby mode. The switching module allows for switching in the standby radio in the event that another radio fails without introducing any loss. In disclosed examples, switching module inputs coupled with inactive or failed radio output ports are coupled to an impedance corresponding to the associated radio. Disclosed examples are also useful for combining the outputs of more than one radio under selected circumstances.

    摘要: An exemplary base station device includes a plurality of antennas configured to serve a plurality of sectors. A plurality of radios are coupled with the antennas for processing signals communicated on the antennas. One of the radios is coupled with at least one antenna that serves one of the sectors. The same radio is coupled with an antenna in a different one of the sectors. Another radio is coupled with a different one of the antennas in the one sector and at least one other antenna in a different sector. Such an arrangement of radios and antennas provides for at least simplex communication within each sector even if one of the radios fails.

    摘要: A wireless communications system and method, as well as a dual personality mobile, enable direct communication between subscribers of a wireless communications network. During a call between mobiles, which are suitably situated for direct communication, one mobile assumes a base station personality to establish a mobile-to-mobile traffic link. During a base station emulating mode, the mobile receives/transmits traffic signals at frequencies in the base station receive/transmit band. At least one of the. mobiles monitors the quality of the mobile-to-mobile traffic link, and reports such quality measurements back to a serving base station. When the quality measurements received by the serving base station indicate that the mobile-to-mobile traffic link has deteriorated below an acceptable threshold, the base station emulating mobile is instructed to hand off traffic transmission to the serving base station and resume normal operation. During mobile-to-mobile communication, the base station emulating mobile continues to receive/transmit control information from/to the serving base station. Therefore, the serving base station maintains control over the call, and preserves billing information.
