A protocol and software program are provided to create tagged representations of model building construction codes that have a tagging schema that reflects the logic and requirements of the codes from the text of the codes. The protocol and software can also be used to create “smart” versions of Federal, state, and locally adopted versions of the those codes, as well as reference standards and any other rules or regulations. The SMARTcodes™ and embedded schema and tags are usable by model checking software (MCS) as a limiting set of constraints when the MCS reads a building information model (BIM) that contains information about a building to check the building against the SMARTcodes™ and automatically assess code compliance for the building. In addition, the SMARTcodes™ may accessed manually by users through web-based interfaces to provide output that is useful for a variety of purposes.

An endface configuration of an optical fiber has a frustum region which is produced by polishing the endface. In order to produce the optimal rounded tip, however, the polished fiber is then fused. To increase coupling efficiency, the vertex angle of the polished frustum region is acute, preferably between 16 and 20°. Further, to create a hyperbolic endface surface, an intermediate frustum region is preferably polished prior to fusing tip. This fused tip is preferably has a circular cross-section.

The present disclosure concerns an electrical injury protection system for protecting individuals working on or near a power circuit. In one embodiment, the system comprises a controller that is electrically connected to a power circuit and a detector that is carried by a user working. The detector has three or more electrodes mounted on the user's body which detect the electric field induced on the body by the power circuit. The detector is operable to detect the voltage between each pair of electrodes and activate an alarm if the voltage between any electrode pair exceeds a predetermined proximity threshold. If the voltage between an electrode pair exceeds a predetermined electrical-contact threshold, the detector transmits a tripping signal to the controller to activate a tripping mechanism, which de-energizes the power circuit. In certain embodiments, the controller can be used to monitor the de-energized condition of a de-energized circuit.

A method for operating a confocal microscope system includes deflecting a light beam on a specimen with at least one beam deflection device. The position of the light beam is stepped with at least one beam deflection device across the specimen. A sample of emitted fluorescent light from the specimen is captured in synchronization with each of the stepped positions of the light beam. An image is obtained from the captured samples of emitted fluorescent light.
