    摘要: A method and apparatus for inverting sheets traveling through a machine with an inverter having a reversing chute and a reversing nip in the reversing chute. An incoming sheet is receiving into the reversing chute. The reversing nip reverses the direction of travel of the sheet and drives sheet out of the reversing chute. A gap is opened in said reversing nip, while the outgoing sheet still extends through the reversing nip. A subsequent incoming sheet is received into the reversing chute and through the gap in the reversing nip, while the outgoing sheet still extends through the gap. The gap is closed after the outgoing sheet has exited the reversing nip, such the reversing nip reverses the direction of travel of the subsequent incoming sheet and drives the sheet out of the reversing chute. The machine may be a printing or copying machine.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for cooling copy sheets in a high speed copy machine while en route to an output tray. The invention utilizes a blower connected to manifolds positioned on opposite sides of copy sheets transported in a paper path en route to the output tray. Airflow is supplied to both sides of copy sheets as they are conveyed throughout the paper path in order to cool the copy sheets before they enter the output tray and thereby prevent fusing of the copy sheets together.

    摘要: An electrophotographic copying apparatus utilizing a rotatable drum having a photosensitive outer circumferential surface is disclosed herein along with its method of operation. In making copies of a given sheet of information, an electrostatic latent image corresponding to the information to be copied is formed on a circumferential segment of the drum surface and the image is developed by applying toner onto the image bearing segment of the drum surface. Thereafter, the applied toner is transferred to a blank sheet thereby forming the copy. Once one or more copies are made from a given electrostatic image, any applied but untransferred toner on the drum surface is moved onto a second circumferential segment, preferably by means of a pliant roller segment and preferably with the aid of electrostatic attraction. The toner accumulated on the second segment of the drum surface is then moved by the latter to a specific point and removed from the second surface segment. During this latter movement, the toner is electrostatically held in place on the second drum surface segment.

    摘要: A cleaning system for a photoconductive drum in an electrographic copying apparatus is provided by appropriate utilization of the surface charging and discharging components which are already provided adjacent the path of movement of the rotating surface of the drum. An electrostatic grid is formed on a non-image portion of the surface of the drum to carry the residual toner and carrier back to the developing station. As described in detail in the parent application, the residual toner is physically moved from the image bearing segment of the drum surface to the non-image bearing segment by means of a compliant roller member manipulated in a controlled fashion relative to the movement of the drum. Also, much of the residual toner which accumulates on the compliant member during this latter procedure is moved therefrom to the non-image bearing segment of the drum and held there by electrostatic attraction to the grid on the non-image bearing portion. The residual toner is removed from the non-image bearing drum segment by appropriate biasing of the development roller which is used initially to apply the toner to the surface of the drum.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for slowing down the ejection velocity of the print media into an output tray, without the use of active velocity control of the exit nip or interface, utilizing a non-circular drive roll running against a leaf spring. The regions of contact of the non-circular drive roll are driven at a velocity slower than the incoming sheet velocity, and the spaces between the regions of contact are used to enable relaxation of buckling generated in the print media (e.g. print sheets). The print media travels at the velocity of the upstream nips until they are entirely under the control of the non-circular drive roll exit nip, thus enabling the sheets to be ejected from the exit nip, at a slower velocity, improving stacking registration.
